National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Administrative Officer in Silver Spring, Maryland

Summary This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS), Office Organizational Excellence (OOE), with one vacancy located in Silver Spring, MD. Responsibilities As an Administrative Officer you will perform the following: Write OOE procedures to execute NWS policies, provide administrative solutions to management problems through studies that involve consideration and development of changes in managerial policies, practices, methods, procedures, and or organizational structures and is responsible for the immediate handling and solution of a variety and number of day-to-day practical management problems. Participate in meetings with internal staff and representatives from staff agencies and industry to determine program status, major milestones, and coordination of each to detect in advance potential slippage or increased costs. Oversee all OOE Office of Human Capital Services (OHCS) personnel actions, personnel security, EEO, diversity, and recognition programs; develops comprehensive administrative decision-making and program status information for program reviews and meetings with senior management officials. Serve as the facility coordinator and works with the buildings facilities managers to address office space and facilities requests. Coordinates requests with the property manager for the office. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Assisting with administrative matters for the office including budgeting, contracts, hiring, office management and security and visitor processes; Utilizing established policies, practices and procedures to manage the day-to-day administrative aspects of an office and provide guidance to leadership; and Developing procedures or systems for implementing management and administrative functions in an office. Education Additional Information CTAP candidates will be eligible if it is determined that they have exceeded the minimum qualifications for the position by attaining at least a rating of 85 out of 100.
