The Equipment Operator in the Parks and Recreation Department performs light construction, and general grounds maintenance for parks and public grounds. This includes snow and ice removal from City facilities manually and with mechanical equipment. Job Dimensions: The Parks and Recreation Group is comprised of 7 regular full time and approximately 15 seasonal employees responsible for maintaining City owned parks and grounds, including 19 City parks, 14 beauty areas, 5 detention basins, the roadside areas along the major state routes in the City, and other City owned property. The Equipment Operator works with minimal direct supervision to maintain a schedule of grounds maintenance activities. The Equipment Operator will carry out work projects and assignments in the absence of the department's foreman. The Operator will be expected to work effectively in completing assignments. Qualifications: High school graduate or GED equivalent Able to read and write. Experience in operating light and heavy equipment. Mechanical aptitude. Ability to communicate, written and oral Valid class (B) CDL with tanker and airbrake endorsement or ability to obtain with-in 6 months. Ability to deal with diversity and irate citizens. A minimum of one (1) year work experience requiring the use of heavy equipment, lawn mowers and tractors. A minimum of two (2) year experience in the construction or facilities maintenance field (Building Construction, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC Trades).
