The Toxics Cleanup Program{rel="nofollow"}(TCP) within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill an *Environmental Cleanup Engineer (Environmental Engineer 3) (In-Training) *position. This position is located in our *Northwest Region Office (NWRO) *in *Shoreline, WA{rel="nofollow"}. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

*Please Note: *The salary posted above includes the additional 5% premium pay that this position will receive due to its location in Shoreline, WA{target="_blank" rel="noopener"} in King County.    

As the Environmental Cleanup Engineer, you will provide environmental and construction expertise on the cleanup of complex sites, including area-wide sites such as the Everett Smelter Project (ESP). This is a high-priority cleanup site with extensive arsenic and lead contamination on the former Asarco smelter property. This contamination continues to impact residential properties and parks as well as industrial land. With approximately 400 residential properties currently affected by smelter contamination, you will evaluate appropriate methods of cleanup with your project team. Applying environmental engineer techniques and principles related to contaminated site cleanup, you'll review contractor cleanup designs and other engineering submittals, conduct contractor oversight, and propose solutions to complex environmental engineering problems.

This is an opportunity to perform impactful cleanup and project management work as an environmental engineer in direct service of the residents in the Northwest region of Washington. Note: *This position offers a career path and on-the-job training. This position allows you to progress through the *Environmental Engineering *field and achieve the goal class of an *Environmental Engineer 3 (EE3). Candidates will be considered at the EE2 and EE3 levels, depending on their qualifications. For salary levels for each, please see the qualifications section.  The mission of the Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is to protect Washington's human health and the environment by preventing and cleaning up pollution and supporting sustainable communities and natural resources for the benefit of future and current generations. Please Note: *This is a project position that is funded until June 30, 2025. The funding for this position has a high probability of being renewed for the next two bi-annual budget cycles (i.e. through June 2029). *Tele-work options for this position: *This position will be eligible for up to a 90% tele-work schedule. *However, periodic site visits (approximately 1-2 times per week) will be required to meet with the contractors/residents.
