POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Announcement is hereby made for a full-time (12-month) Specialist I position that is part of a multiple-year grant in the Cybersecurity program on the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.

We are currently searching for a full-time, grant-funded Specialist with expertise in the field of Cybersecurity.

This is a Unit III position, covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the college, located at the Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood, NY.

Job description

Reporting to the Academic Chair, the Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the implementation of labs associated with Cybersecurity. In collaboration with the College’s Educational Technology Unit (ETU), responsibilities will include the following:

  • Preparation, maintenance, organization and management of laboratory equipment and supplies. This includes repair, replacement, upgrades or restocking of laboratory equipment;

  • Maintain, install and configure various platform services to ensure that virus protection, operating system patches, and other widely used software packages are installed and kept up to date on departmental IT equipment;

  • Ensure all connections and hardware are maintained and updates are made to the software environment in all laboratory/lecture classrooms;

  • Work with and support faculty and students in an effort to deliver the program/course objectives; including, but not limited to, assisting students during lab activities;

  • Maintain and support the classroom private network by utilizing strong knowledge of routers, switches, servers, printers and virtualization;

  • Actively participate in collegewide recruitment, student engagement, and retention strategies (e.g. Early Alerts);

  • Collaborate with a team of professionals responsible for the deliverables of grant efforts;

  • The ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Required

  • Master's Degree in technology-related field (Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar).

  • Three (3) years of full-time experience in the related field or the areas outlined above.

  • Proficiency in Applied Cybersecurity.

  • Experience and knowledge of using and implementing a variety of Operating Systems such as (but not limited to): Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Server Linux, Mac OS.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated record of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) related to Cybersecurity/Information Technology.

  • Current Cisco CCNA certification and additional industry certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, EC-Council, ISC2, SANS, etc.

  • Experience with the Cisco Network Academy platform.

  • Technical experience in maintaining, installing, upgrading Cisco routers, switches, firewalls; and/or Servers.

  • Experience with managing the following services: DHCP, DNS, Network Licensing, Windows Certificate, Active Directory.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Experience with enterprise networking technologies such as Ethernet wired and wireless networking and related protocols, VPN endpoint remote access and configuration, firewall and intrusion protection system administration.

  • Familiarity with penetration testing techniques and/or network discovery tools.

  • Extensive experience implementing /securing Linux, Windows, and virtual machines.

  • Subject matter expertise with Microsoft Windows operating systems including Active Directory.

  • Advanced knowledge of Defense-In-Depth methodologies and CIA Triad.

  • Experience with Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Linux and VMWare operating systems.
