Amazon Software Development Manager, Amazon Private Brands in Seattle, Washington

The Amazon Private Brands (APB ) CoreTech team is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team focused on building technical solutions to support the compliance, sustainability, and quality spaces and driving LLM innovation across the APB organization. Key job responsibilities

This position requires a strategic and visionary leader who can think holistically about the future state, while also driving pragmatic solutions to address current challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Thinking and Innovation:

  • Envision and champion the long-term roadmap for backend systems, going beyond just fixing existing issues.

  • Identify transformative opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, such as large language models (LLMs), to automate and streamline critical processes.

  • Cultivate a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging exploration and experimentation.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Forge strong partnerships with central Amazon teams outside of the Private Brands organization, aligning on shared goals and integrating solutions.

  • Effectively navigate the complex Amazon ecosystem, leveraging relationships and influence to drive cross-functional initiatives.

  • Serve as a bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating requirements and advocating for the team's vision.

Judgment and Decision-making:

  • Exercise high-level judgment to determine the optimal approach, whether to build in-house or integrate with partner solutions.

  • Develop a robust decision-making framework to assess trade-offs and ensure sustainable, scalable solutions.

  • Prioritize initiatives based on their potential impact and alignment with long-term strategic goals.

Scalability and Automation:

  • Develop solutions that can scale seamlessly to support the growing needs of the Private Brands organization.

  • Leverage automation and LLM-powered capabilities to reduce manual effort and ensure high accuracy of data and protocols.

  • Collaborate with product managers and scientists to define and implement the LLM architecture, driving innovation and improved business outcomes.

  • Proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced, complex environment.

  • Ability to think strategically and envision transformative solutions, rather than just fixing existing problems.

  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate and influence across the organization.

  • Experienced in making strategic decisions about build vs. buy, weighing the trade-offs and long-term implications.

  • Understanding of large language models and their potential applications in accelerating business processes.

  • Passion for driving innovation and embracing emerging technologies to improve efficiency and productivity.

Seattle, WA, USA

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
