Amazon Software Development Engineer, People Accessibility And Inclusivity Innovations in Seattle, Washington

Description

Amazon is one of the largest employers on the planet with hundreds of thousands of employees across the globe. Our People Experience and Technology (PXT) organization is seeking a Software Development Engineer for a talented engineering team focused on delivery.

PXT’s mission is to build a workplace for Amazonians to invent and deliver on behalf of our customers. We enable Amazon to scale quickly and efficiently as we continue to expand rapidly across countries, business lines and size of business. Our human resource transactions have massive volume, the range of diverse experiences needed to fulfill at this scale is unique. This requires reliable, scalable, and customized suite of software applications that ensure our global employees receive accurate, timely and best in class experiences throughout their employment lifecycle. Amazon has grown significantly since the current suite of tools were deployed; we are investing in long term solutions for their replacements. Our business rules must support the most complex retail business in the world, due to the varying nature of roles, business units and jurisdictions of our employees.

As an SDE, you will contribute to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including researching contributors to existing defects, clarifying requirements, system design, development, documentation, testing, and operations. You will leverage Amazon’s industry leading technologies to build modern, distributed systems. You should have strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven, and have a demonstrated track record of delivering high quality results, in a highly ambiguous, green-field environment. You should be a passionate, results-oriented, experienced software developer. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a relentless focus on the customer experience and want to build something new rather than maintaining code written by someone else, then this role is for you. Successful candidates will be leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. PXT business requires creative engineering balanced with high quality and customer focus.

Professional traits that are not unique to this position, but necessary for Amazon leaders:

• Thinks big.

• Result oriented.

• Exhibits excellent judgment.

• Expects innovation from themselves and their team.

• Has relentlessly high standards and is never satisfied with the status quo.

• Has passion for good engineering with the ability to inspire the same in others.

• Can dive deep and stay in touch with the details of our business and technology

Key job responsibilities

• Designing software solutions, building new concepts and methodologies, hands on problem-solving and writing efficient code

• Designing and building new features that are highly performant and scalable

• Designing and building tools and systems that support thousands of designers across the world

• Instilling best practices for software development and documentation, making sure designs meet requirements, and delivering high quality software on tight schedules

A day in the life

On any given day, an SDE in P42S may present or attend a technical design document, or create new infrastructure on AWS, build new software or participate in code reviews. They may complete on-call activities to secure and maintain existing software.
