WORK SCHEDULE - 75% FTE; 30 HOURS/WEEK; Th-F, 0830-1900 & Sat, 0730-1800

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION Complete radiology and imaging services using the latest technology Radiology Services at UWMC-Montlake is the premier choice for imaging in the Pacific Northwest. From basic screening tests to cutting-edge procedures, our state-of-the art equipment, skilled technologists and diverse, world-class academic radiologists deliver timely, accurate results. All of UW Medicine’s radiologists are board-certified and specialize in a variety of areas such as neuroradiology, body radiology, interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography and chest radiology. Imaging findings are integrated with all clinical data to generate comprehensive and actionable patient assessments.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The Mammography Imaging Technologist is able to independently produce high quality diagnostic images. Follows all outlined safety protocols while ensuring patient comfort and confidentiality. Competent in the use of all relevant computer systems.

EQUIPMENT: Understands, is able to independently operate, and practices proper use of mammography equipment Able to troubleshoot minor problems with mammography equipment Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or appropriate service Practices proper aseptic techniques following use of all equipment Chooses appropriate patient from work list or enters required patient information to maintain accurate permanent record of test results Evaluates new prototype equipment and maintains confidentiality of proprietary information

IT/COMPUTER SYSTEMS/IMAGE MANAGEMENT: Schedules, begins, completes, and cancels exams in Epic as indicated Knowledge of Epic and Visage to perform daily duties Follows department guidelines for documenting dose in Epic and Dose Watch (If applicable) Verifies all images sent to Visage Reconciles any unspecified images in Visage and manages exceptions in Epic Documents any QA issues, protocol changes, or delays in care into the appropriate notes section in Epic Able to merge exams in Visage Demonstrates knowledge in EPIC Ensure that all exams are billed properly Knowledge of all charges for contrast, exams, and other billable items

IMAGING/PATIENT CARE:

Examines all orders for accuracy in determining if signs and symptoms match exam ordered and follows departmental protocols. Clarifies orders with ordering physician if necessary Explains study to the patient, appropriately questions patient for exam to be performed, instructs, and assists patients in proper positioning for the examination Selects equipment and settings to optimize the image for diagnostic purposes as described by UWMC protocol Exercises independent judgment and is able to tailor examination relative to patients clinical presentation and pathophysiological state Appropriately monitors and communicates with the patient during exam and is able to assess patient pain and notify proper personnel for intervention if necessary Practices proper room set-up and clean-up for all procedures Evaluates images for technical quality and accurate positioning Independently performs and evaluate both clinical and research examinations Completes all examinations assigned in an efficient and timely manner without reduction in exam quality Performs work accurately and quickly even during peak workloads and maintains an acceptable volume of examinations as described by department policies Able to triage emergent patients into daily schedule

SAFETY:

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health errors Performs all quality control checks as prescribed and contacts the appropriate staff in the event of a system or equipment malfunction Follows all departmental policies regarding radiation safety and shielding patients Chooses and correctly labels all contrast and medications under the direction of the Radiologist Screens all patients for contrast contraindications prior to exam. Appropriately questions patient regarding history, allergies, and pregnancy Uses markers for all imaging Follows department protocols for all imaging studies Know basic CPR to assist in patient care Initiates and participates in all Final Verification/Time Out with all staff members present for any invasive procedures

OTHER:

Satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR equivalent education/experience. Orient, educates, and provides a positive learning environment for students, trainees, technologists, residents, and fellows Completes annual educational requirements Maintains required certifications Helps others when necessary Consistently performs good work flow management Consistently communicate effectively with staff and patients Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to independently use KRONOS timekeeping system and follows the Department‘s guidelines Performs other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS - Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist - Satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR equivalent education/experience - Registered by ARRT as a Mammography Technologist, before completion of probationary period
