This job contributes to Starbucks success by serving as the functional lead for Business Operations for the Corporate Affairs organization, which includes Government Affairs, Public Policy, Social Impact and The Starbucks Foundation.

We are seeking a leader with experience enabling high performing, cross-functional teams. This role requires an ability to both partner with and support work on behalf of senior leaders in Corporate Affairs, across the enterprise while also demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and engagement with external stakeholders.

Reporting directly to the EVP, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, candidates should have a track record of staying organized and disciplined in complex, fast moving, and sometimes ambiguous business environments. Experience supporting senior leadership (e.g., Chief of Staff) is also desired.

As a director of Business Operations, Corporate Affairs, you will…

• Lead business planning activity in partnership with functional business operations leaders in CA throughout the year. This includes long-term strategic planning as well as operational and financial planning exercises.

• In partnership with the CA finance and PRO (human resources) teams, support organizational strategies that assure financial and partner commitments are met. This includes but is not limited to cost analysis and reporting, organizational design, and talent strategies.

• Lead “rhythm of the business” strategy and execution for the CA leadership team in harmony with enterprise tempo (e.g., North America Business Reviews; CEO Business Reviews).

• Lead the strategy and execution of CA performance reporting in partnership with the enterprise transformation team, finance, and functional business operations leaders.

• Bring a leadership voice to the Starbucks enterprise network of business operations leaders and continuously work to elevate the standard for value delivered through this role.

• In partnership with the senior executive assistant, proactively support the CA and extended leadership team with communications and meeting preparation, both within CA and cross-functionally. This includes Board of Directors, investor communications, and external stakeholders including but not limited to elected and government officials, policy and non-profit leaders.

• Lead enterprise risk management (ERM) and internal audit (IA) coordination for CA.

• Facilitate leadership development opportunities for CA, including quarterly CA leadership team onsite / offsite sessions and external guest speakers.

• Serve as the CA lead point-of-contact for systems and tools that support planning processes, including Starbucks Portfolio Management (SPM) program management toolset.

• Partner with PRO in assuring the continuous improvement of CA partner experience through actions informed by periodic partner experience surveys (PES).

• Partner with government affairs, social impact, public policy teams and communications leaders across Starbucks global markets to convene regular sharing opportunities with CA leadership team around topics of importance.

• Continuously reinforce the vision, purpose, and strategy of the CA organization within the organization and across the enterprise.

• Other strategic projects as defined by the evp, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer and the leadership team.

• Superb and succinct communications skills, including the development of presentation material for large organizations and senior leadership teams.

• Strong proficiency in program and project management with proven ability to stay organized across multiple competing priorities.

• Demonstrated track record of successful and impactful engagement with external stakeholders on behalf of a major brand or high-profile principal.

• Analytical skills with proven ability to digest large, complex data sets to pull out key themes and potential courses of action (informed recommendations) for senior leaders.

• Ability to function effectively and collaboratively in a highly ambiguous environment, with the flexibility to change course as required to respond to new situations quickly and decisively.

• Strong meeting management and facilitation skills, leveraging hybrid working tools; ability to flex style to different audiences across mediums to yield desired objectives/outcomes.

• Cross-functional leadership experience in large, matrixed organizations with ability to influence and drive change across organizational boundaries.

• A passion for people and desire to help partners and the organization thrive.

• Ability to lead and leverage resources across the organization to deliver results, through influence and process.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
