The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician II WORK SCHEDULE

  • 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm PST

  • An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and biologyOR

  • Equivalent education/experience. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advises clients and potential clients of the optimum use of Laboratory Medicine’s Clinical Lab Services.

  • Provides technical information regarding methodologies used within the clinical lab at UWMC Responds promptly, courteously, and professionally to phone and written inquiries from clients about test information, results, and other elation information.

  • Follows phone log in procedures adhering to 92% logged in time-to-time sheet time, and properly utilizes other designated time such as “not ready” for processing work while unavailable for incoming calls.

  • Twenty-five percent of the time is performed at a pre-analytical level various laboratory procedure, and other laboratory work, supporting Laboratory Medicine clinical operation.

  • Participates toward the goal of providing enhanced services to the clients of the department.

  • Demonstrates decision making and problem-solving ability on certain requisitions ensuring that these specimens can meet the test run for that day and provide results in a timely manner.

  • Engages in professional communications and establishes collegial relationships with all areas of lab.

  • Participates in the goal of providing enhanced service to the departments’ clients.

  • Demonstrates effective communication with the supervisor, manager, co-workers, lab technician and all members of the Lab Med team.

  • Demonstrates the ability to problem solve by expediting processing of specimens that are received mislabeled, unlabeled, missing patient data, insufficient quantity, etc. and contact clients as required.

  • Thereby ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of these procedures, which are critical to patient care.

  • Resolves problems related to delivery service to clients, providing supervisor with feedback regarding client needs.

  • Trains and supports new client services staff for Community Services.

  • May train new Clinical Laboratory Technician 1 staff for specimen processing division.

  • May be asked to lead and direct the work of CLT1 and other staff.

  • May include delegated responsibility of some daily scheduling.

  • Provides referral resources to other laboratories, maintains a high-level understanding of the Laboratory referral industry to refer clients to appropriate testing centers.

  • Facilitates medical or technical consultation by faculty members or laboratory staff to Reference Laboratory Services clients when appropriate. Functions as dispatch for courier service, provides input for changes or expansion for existing routes.

  • Provides back-up coverage for courier rotes on limited occasions as needed, using a university vehicle. Performs continual monitoring of lab reports to verify consistency of service.

  • Prepares supplies and reports for delivery of clients, monitors inventory.

  • Participates in the timely, manual release of patient results, according to UWMC and Department policy.

  • Demonstrates proper identification and reporting of errors and understands the reporting procedures to provide timely follow through of these errors to ensure the least impact to our clients.

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, work as a team member to provide maximum coverage and quality service for our clients in stressful and all situations.
