Purpose:
This Job Description provides a description of the duties for which the Shipping and Receiving Technician I will be accountable and responsible. The intent of this Job Description is to enable the Employee to be successful within the chain of command, by promoting transparent, effective, efficient, and quality corporate operations. Other duties may be assigned to the Shipping and Receiving Technician I from time to time: these additional duties will be communicated directly from the Shipping and Receiving Manager or Leadman. If these duties are considered to be of an essential and recurring nature, and merit assigning responsibility, this Job Description will be revised accordingly.
General Description:
Vital Link Inc.'s core business is in the fabrication, maintenance, and installation of jet engine test facilities and sound suppression systems. This requires that the corporation support both field and plant operations, while operating both in a commercial and military environment on a worldwide basis. The Shipping and Receiving Technician I in general shall be responsible for material handling, stocking and retrieving parts and supplies, loading and unloading parts, supplies and finished assemblies, labelling, packaging and crating, and performing other duties under the supervisory direction of the Shipping and Receiving Manager or Leadman.
Particular Duties:
1.
Perform all duties assigned by the Shipping and Receiving Manager or Leadman. This includes but is not limited to material handling, stocking and retrieving materials, packaging and crating, labelling and marking, and other duties in the Shipping and Receiving Department;
2.
Ship and receive goods and materials in accordance with company procedures, purchase order terms and other written and verbal directions of the Shipping and Receiving Manager or Leadman;
3.
Label, package, box and crate items in accordance with project requirements.
Project requirements may be identified in VLI procedures, customer specifications or instructions, or good industry standards. Work shall be performed under supervisory direction;
4.
Utilize common hand tools including power saws, hammers, nail guns, measuring devices, and other hand tools to properly manufacture wooden crates per instructions or plans provided by others;
5.
Under supervisory direction, properly load materials and items onto trucks for shipping, including ensuring that all materials include proper marking, crating, and cribbing to ensure the goods may be transported in safe and good condition to their destination.
Obtain and maintain certification in use of all required loading equipment including forklifts and overhead cranes;
6.
Keep work area tidy and orderly, perform routine cleaning and housekeeping;
7.
Operate equipment in a safe manner and use personal protective equipment as required;
8.
Coordinate with other Shipping and Receiving Department personnel to perform required work duties.
Training:
Must be trained in the proper use of material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes. Must have entry level capability to perform data entry requirements in corporate ERP System Global Shop, and utilize Microsoft Office products including Excel, Outlook and Word to complete forms and send email.
Must know and follow requirements for the proper storage and allocation of supplies and material.
Must be trained to company safety requirements.
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
This is an entry level position.
One (1) years experience in material handling, inventory control and shipping and receiving is preferred.
Licenses/Certification:
Certified forklift operator is required. This may be obtained after hire.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
Should have the ability to operate hand and power too s required to perform packaging and crating operations, such as hammers, power saws and drills.
