Overview

The General Superintendent (GS) is the main point-of-contact for all CM’s, subcontractors, consultants, and third parties on a portfolio of projects. The GS’s primary role is to oversee the performance of the execution of the CM’s project plan to ensure contractors are holding to their contractual obligations specifically in terms of safety, quality, schedule, and budget, and that the self-perform teams are maintaining safety, quality, and production to meet the schedule and budget. To be successful the GS must complement the PX’s contractual and management expertise with their own construction and on-site expertise. This will include bidding and managing self perform work, including creating estimates, schedules, and evaluating projects for necessary resources. This position is for all solar projects under a specified portfolio (either regional or owner based). Travel is required.

Responsibilities

Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus, and strong communication are critical in performing duties which include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and clear direction to the construction team.

  • Ownership of safety, quality, and project performance on a portfolio level.

  • Understand the turn-key EPC contract for the solar project and oversee compliance by the EPC Contractor on the project site.

  • Work with the team (Engineering, Project Management, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, Safety, etc.) to ensure project success.

  • Mentor and develop the site team.

  • Interface with the client in a productive and collaborative manner.

  • Support the PM and PX with high level scheduling and coordination.

  • Monitor EPC and Subcontractor compliance with their Contracts specifically in terms of Quality, Safety, Schedule, and Budget.

  • Assist in the hand-off of the project to the Operations and Maintenance team at COD.

  • Ensure all internal site staff personnel are participating and engaged in valued meetings with other departments.

  • Maintain a regular cadence of interaction with all site leads and be involved in personnel development.

  • Ensure staff and subcontractors maintain proper records and comply with the Quality Inspection and Test Plan.

  • Conduct site audits with the internal team to coach, train, and inspect the site for overall compliance.

  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years field experience OR a construction related degree and 5 years experience.

  • Previous utility scale solar experience required.

  • O SHA 30 certification, First Aid/AED training, STSC or CHST desired.

  • Expertise in construction processes and procedures

  • Expertise in contracts, scopes of work, schedules of value, resource loaded schedules, a nd change order management.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and other business software platforms.

  • Advanced professional oral and written communications.

  • Experience complying with quality assurance processes.

  • Demonstrated Safe Working Practices and knowledge of OSHA safety standards.

  • Success at managing and delivering construction projects on schedule and within budget.

  • Ability to analyze project scenarios and implement site-specific design modifications.

  • Ability to collaborate with other business functions productively and ensure your team’s buy in.

  • Highly motivated to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to manage, coach, mentor, and motivate employees.

  • Organized and able to meet deadlines.

  • A ttention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship.

  • Valid driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

    This work is performed in a field environment and travel is required. Will be required to perform some physical labor. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 25 pounds.

    Must be able to pass a drug screening.
