Oliver's Market Workers Compensation and Safety Specialist in Santa Rosa, California

SUMMARY: Human Resources Corporate Workers Compensation and Safety Specialist performs a variety of specialized and analytical duties involving workers compensation claims, timely claims processing, and company safety initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as a resource to employees concerning Workers Compensation; respond to inquiries and provide technical information concerning related laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Receive and process accident reports and workers compensation claims.
  • File all required forms and information to the insurance carrier in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain communication with the injured employee, provide assistance with claims, obtaining health care as appropriate.
  • Communicate with workers compensation insurance carrier, claims adjusters, health care providers, managers, and employees, to ensure appropriate processing and ongoing management of claims.
  • Work closely with store level management to facilitate management of work-related illness and injuries, modified duty and return of injured worker to safe and productive employment in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with leave, benefits, and payroll staff to ensure appropriate use and access to applicable leave time, insurance benefits, and payroll requests from employee.
  • Maintain adequate supply of workers compensations packets; provide packets and forms to employees, supervisors, and others as requested.
  • Maintain physical and computerized workers compensations records and reports.
  • Maintain HIPPA compliance and integrity of all data.
  • Maintain OSHA logs and prepare annual postings and reporting of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses
  • Analyze circumstances of claims, injury records, severity, modified duty days, lost time from work, and cost of claim to make recommendations to mitigate future injury/claim risk.
  • Provide oversite of company IIPP and Safety Incentive Program
  • Manage a safety team of 40+ employees and attend monthly safety meetings.
  • Identify and assess safety priorities within the company through monthly audits.
  • Assist management in identifying areas of improvement to enhance a culture of safe work environments, safe work practices, and reduction of industrial injuries in each location.
  • Create, organize, and obtain safety-related materials, monthly safety topics, safety training procedure and course materials to support the company IIPP.
  • Communicate with leadership, coordinators, and managers to create a safe work environment and support ongoing safety practices.
  • Oversee Facilitator Training for all new hires, post-accident retraining and annual retraining to current employees.
  • Understanding and coordination of Workers Compensation and FMLA
  • Travel between retail stores locations
  • Safety and Personal Protective Equipment inventory management
  • Establish connections with all Store Directors and vendors, as well as downline staff.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination equivalent to; bachelors degree in human resources or related field and 1 to 2yrs of experience processing workers compensation claims or related experience

Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience related to processing workers compensation claims and understanding of medical terminology.

Minimum of one year of experience in health and safety regulations
