The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end-to-end development of Disney’s world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging and data.

As a Senior Software Engineer within the Web Application Experiences team, you will focus on building experiences for our core streaming products, pushing the boundaries of what is possible on Disney+, Hulu, and Star+. Our mission: To build highly performant, scalable, and delightful streaming experiences that enable our viewers to discover and engage in the content they love, their way. To deliver on that, you’ll join a team of collaborative engineers focused on product delivery, while partnering closely with team members across product, design, program management, and engineering organizations.

You will serve as a high level technical resource and leader, solving sophisticated technical challenges at scale, while finding opportunities to evolve our products and technologies that power them!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates closely with product and project management to translate requirements into technical specifications and timelines to drive towards solutions.

  • Leads by example to write, maintain, and enforce code quality through test driven development.

  • Contributes to project needs and the evolution of the team's practices; recommending changes in development, coding, maintenance and system standards.

  • Efficiently supports software throughout the lifecycle. Adds new implementations and technical maintenance while maintaining clear documentation.

  • Supports and mentors developers through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical leadership.

  • Review code and pull requests to ensure product and design specifications are met

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience building highly scalable and performant consumer-facing JavaScript / TypeScript web applications

  • BS degree in computer science or equivalent work experience

  • Strong knowledge in JavaScript / TypeScript and React, with the ability to write well-documented, clear, and robust code.

  • Is operationally minded – biases towards proactively identifying and mitigating potential issues before impacting our viewers

  • Ability to support and mentor engineers by building trust and providing constructive feedback.

  • Exhibits emotional intelligence by fostering a collaborative, communicative, and empowered team culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Shipped production level React/Node.js application with high availability and throughput deployed to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)

  • Solid understanding of web accessibility fundamentals and web performance metrics

  • Experience integrating with REST and/or GraphQL APIs at scale

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and New York City, NY is $142,516 to $191,180 per year, the hiring range in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., CA and Bristol, CT is $136,038 to $182,490 per year; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, CA is $148,994 to $199,870 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
