The Opinion Leader Program Manager (OLPM) position for Medtronic Endoscopy has three main responsibilities: broad working knowledge of our areas of care and products; key liaison to cross-functional partners for the purposes of External Engagement (key opinion leaders and societies); and program management for an External Engagement landscaping and management strategy.

The External Engagement OLPM works under the guidance of Medical Education Senior Manager of the Endoscopy OU to:

  • Develop and maintain current working knowledge of the products, areas of care, and future interests relevant to the Operating Unit.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional business partners, product teams, and fellow CRMS colleagues to identify unmet needs in our key opinion leader networks and society relationships.

  • Develop, execute, track, and report out on an External Engagement Program Strategic Plan created in collaboration with cross-functional partners.

  • Manage select strategic advisory boards.

  • Establish the highest medical-scientific credibility with external customers and stakeholders.

Medtronic Endoscopy is headquartered in Santa Clara, CA. This role is open to remote within the Continental United States.

A Day in the Life

Comprehensive External Engagement Program Strategic Plan for the Endoscopy Operating Unit:

  • Aligning goals of the External Engagement Program with the strategic goals of the GI OU, product portfolio strategies, and CRMS strategies.

  • Leading and resourcing KOL and society landscaping and management plans in support of collaboratively defined objectives.

  • Calling and conducting regular cross-functional steering committee meetings to define objectives, establish and revisit priorities, exchange updates, and facilitate real-time pivots in engagement plans as business needs change.

  • Maintaining an upwards reporting mechanism on progress-to-goals and metrics of the Engagement Strategy.

  • Developing a database to track external relationship contacts.

  • Ensuring continual alignment and communication with CRMS and cross-functional business partners, Professional Marketing Managers, and Operating Unit Leadership Teams.

  • Regularly analyzing our External Engagement strategy and making recommendations to the business to address gaps in inclusion and diversity of key opinion leaders and societies.

KOL Engagements:

  • Serve as initial point of contact to manage and organize all KOL engagements and maintain documentation of interactions

  • Initiating relationships defined in the Engagement strategy, facilitating introductions to internal stakeholders, and providing a consistent reliable touchpoint between formal engagements.

  • Develop relationships with KOLs and gain understanding of dynamics of a constantly evolving landscape to align with tactical initiatives

  • Communicating relevant information and insights from key thought leader engagements and society events to CRMS and cross-functional partners.

Advisory Boards:

  • Working with Leadership Team to inform and facilitate KOL connections aligned to advisory board needs, as requested.

  • Providing direct ownership and oversight over organizing and executing select OU strategic advisory boards.

  • Executing on timely post-advisory board follow up and actions.

  • Providing continuity of relationships between advisory board engagements.

Expertise and Insights:

  • Staying abreast of medical and scientific developments by reviewing current literature, monitoring competitor activities, and maintaining product knowledge.

  • Keeping current on strategic activities such as Endoscopy and marketing product strategies, business development and licensing activities, new product development, broad OU visions and strategies, and clinical evidence generation strategies.

  • Contributing to internal Endoscopy and cross-functional strategies.

  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance internal and external guidelines relevant to the position are followed.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

To be considered, these minimum requirements must be evident on your resume

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CRMS/MA (e.g. medical science, clinical, affairs, regulatory affairs and/or healthcare economics) within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry with a Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with an advanced degree.

  • Must have at least 3 years of key opinion leader or society engagement experience.

Nice to Have

  • MBA, MPH, MHA, or Allied Health Degree (PA-C, CRNA, NP, RN, RT) preferred

  • Therapeutic area knowledge strongly preferred

  • Understanding current medical device regulatory requirements, healthcare system requirements, compliance standards, and ethical obligations

  • Understanding functional areas within CRMS (Clinical Affairs; Pre-Clinical Affairs; Healthcare Economics, Policy and Reimbursement; Mecal Education; and Medical Science, etc.)

  • Understanding key functional areas outside of CRMS (e.g., Marketing, Compliance, R&D)

  • Developing and implementing a strategic plan

  • Creating and maintaining trust and credibility in professional relations with all levels of clinical / technical / marketing people in corporate, clinical, and academic settings

  • Developing targeted key opinion leader (KOL) networks and engaging with societies

  • Collaborating with a focus on inclusion and diversity

  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal communication skills

  • Effectively receiving, and providing, critique or objections to ideas

  • Maintaining accountability for oneself and the activities of others on joint projects

  • Formulating and executing research strategies using appropriate sources, adapted to answering different types of questions

  • Differentiating credible and relevant information from poor quality and irrelevant content

  • Familiar with credible sources of scientific and clinical information, such as PubMed

  • Understanding, interpreting, integrating, and communicating complex information

  • Communicating clearly and concisely both verbally and through email

  • Delivering persuasive reports or presentations to audiences both with and without comparable backgrounds

  • Working self-directed and making decisions independently

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by location.
