General Description

Monitor and regularly update the credit risk condition of Popular’s Consumer Credit Cards, Credit Lines and Loans portfolio. Evaluate the soundness of credit policies and procedures, key risk controls, and credit quality based on an in-depth analysis of portfolio MIS. Manage the compilation, reporting, and monitoring of all information related to the Credit Risk portfolios. Understand new or existing processes and apply critical thinking skills to identify potential deficiencies in credit risk management processes. By using statistical models, form the foundation of an effective consumer credit risk management process that could be used to determine approve/decline credit decisions, collections management procedures, portfolio, and line management strategies. Apply complex statistical and mathematical skills to develop models that help inform risk management and operational decisions. Focus areas include credit scoring and Credit Cards decision engine programs, acquisitions and portfolio management strategy/criteria design, portfolio segmentation, demographic analysis, and modeling to maximize risk/reward trade-off and process efficiencies. As a Quantitative Analyst you will be working closely with stakeholders and portfolio managers to enhance profitability and manage risk through data-driven insights.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and monitor Consumer portfolio performance to identify and address trends and behaviors impacting operational results and efficiencies, i.e. losses, approval rates, automated decision rates, etc.

  • Regularly review and assess the condition of portfolios, delinquency and NPA (non-performing assets), and develop and implement credit policies and monitoring procedures to maintain credit risk exposure within acceptable parameters.

  • Identify critical risk cases and establish procedures and timetables to monitor closely these cases.

  • Analyze market changes and identify trends in credit risk problems with existing, new, and potential clients.

  • Manage large databases and generate files for analysis and/or reports that will support business decisions by means of data management specialized applications like SAS, Power BI, and R among others.

  • Apply SAS and database knowledge to evaluate and develop risk management strategies.

  • Develop, monitor, and publish managerial reports to manage business activities.

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses and stress tests to assess levels of credit risk and economic future trends and develop strategies to manage possible outcomes.

  • Monitor and assess the post-implementation impact of risk management and/or credit cards decision engine strategies.

  • Maintain consistent open communication and develop strong relationships with businesses, database administrators and risk management units.

  • Liaison with and maintain relationship with Decision Engine service providers.

  • Prepare and make presentations to Business Managers and Corporate Credit Risk group.

  • Risk reporting in an appropriate way for different audiences.

Education

Bachelor's degree Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline or field from an accredited University/ College.

Experience

  • Two years or more in research, market and/or financial analysis, data mining, and/or database management.

  • At least one year in Consumer Credit analysis and/or Credit Cards decision engine management or similar is preferrable not required.

  • Experience in business and management principles and practices.

  • Experience with score statistical models’ development, validation and/or calibration.

Knowlede, Skills and Abilities (KSA's)

  • Knowledge in banking products, services, policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance related to area of responsibility.

  • Conduct analysis to Designs/develops solutions to improve management of information for business lines and organization.

  • Knowledge of the following: Fraud Prevention, Risk Management, Compliance Administration is preferrable not required.

  • Familiarity with Credit Bureau structure and data management.

  • Performs complex research and analysis of financial market trends.

  • Ability to prepare, interpret and analyze P&L reports.

  • Knowledge of consumer local and federal laws, local, federal government regulations, and agency rules.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.

  • Proficient with data management tools such as SQL/Oracle, SAS, COGNOS, R, Power Pivot, Power BI, among others.

  • Experience with decision engines like TRIAD, STRATA, PowerCurve is a plus.

  • Produces unambiguous, comprehensive, and accurate interpretations. Demonstrates attention to detail.

  • Develops insightful, value-added, and actionable analyses with detailed explanations regarding drivers of those results. Presents numerical data effectively.

  • Uses variety of interpersonal skills and communication methods to present organized information appropriate for intended audience using persuasive and informative writing.

  • Strong reading, writing and speaking communication in English and Spanish

  • Open to share knowledge and provide training to team members.

  • Prioritizes regular workload, special tasks and concurrent projects, allocating time and resources to ensure that work is completed accurately and efficiently within the established time frame.

  • Ability to prioritize and work with multiple projects and tasks with minimum supervision.

  • Capacity to achieve results according to plan ensuring the expected quality.
