Do you have the business savvy, technical insight and relationship development skills to mesh with the venture-backed startup ecosystem and help further establish Amazon as the leader in the cloud computing?

As a Cyber Venture Capital Business Development Manager within AWS, you will have an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver on the strategy to build mind share and broaden the use of Amazon’s cloud computing platform with venture-backed startups. Your responsibilities will include driving the necessary business insights, strategic and technical relationships with venture firms and their portfolio companies, to establish meaningful business relationships. You will work closely with the AWS sales, technical and partner teams to drive strategic interactions with startups to build long-term business opportunities. You’ll work closely with AWS services business development, product management and marketing teams on strategic initiatives that align with AWS goals in the startup community. You will also act as a critical interface to the startup ecosystem for all facets of AWS and Amazon.

The ideal candidate will possess both a business background and experience that enables them to drive engagement and effectively interact at the Venture Partner/CxO/VP level in startups, as well as a technical background with expertise in the cyber domain, enabling them to effectively engage with software developers and architects. They should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions and work cross-organizationally. A keen sense of ownership, drive, and bias for action is a must. They will also possess a passion for new and emerging technologies and how they can shape the future.

Job Highlights:

  • Play a pivotal role in shaping community engagement efforts with CISOs, cybersecurity startups CxOs, and Cyber industry organizations.

Key job responsibilities

• Working with the founders/leaders of venture-backed startups in Cybersecurity to 1) identify their technical and commercial challenges/opportunities 2) map those needs onto people, technology, knowledge, programs, relationships across Amazon that could potentially help, and 3) mobilize those assets to work on behalf of these startup customers

• Conceiving, authoring, and securing support for launching and executing new initiatives and programs to meet the needs of Cybersecurity startups.

• Developing the North America strategy and then executing the strategic business development plan while collaborating with key internal stakeholders (e.g. sales teams, financial services organization, partner teams, business development, product management, marketing, legal, etc.).

• Discovering, capturing, and reporting back learnings from the field about challenges and opportunities as they relate to Cybersecurity.

• Producing thought leadership and technical-leaning content, workshops, and events for the startup ecosystem. Serving as an evangelist and Cybersecurity subject matter expert within AWS and externally.

• Developing and managing relationships with key venture funds and investors in Cybersecurity. Activities include putting AWS assets to work on behalf of portfolio companies, driving customer and partner relationships for the portfolio, jointly producing thought leadership and educational events for the portfolio and/or broader startup ecosystem.

The VC BD team consists of founders, investors, and individuals immersed in the startup ecosystem. Their extensive connections with founders and investors enable them to grasp the dynamics of the investing ecosystem. With experience as founders or VCs, they possess a deep understanding of the system and empathize with founders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Possess a blend of business acumen and technical expertise to engage effectively with Cyber Venture Partners, C-suite executives, and startup CxOs.

  • Experience in the cybersecurity industry (startup or VC), program management, product or business roles in early-stage startups or high-growth companies, including launching plans and projects guided by metrics and KPIs.

  • Proven track record of building relationships with C-suite executives (CIOs/CISOs).

  • Deep understanding of the startup and VC ecosystem, including familiarity with the startup lifecycle, go-to-market strategies and challenges faced by early-stage startups.

  • Demonstrated operational excellence in building scalable programs or processes from scratch.

  • Ability to measure and optimize success using data, including regular reporting and analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business and technical challenges, crafting compelling value propositions, and collaborating cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA

  • Knowledge of core cloud computing concepts including compute, storage, networking, databases, and higher order capabilities including serverless and machine learning; ability to go deep enough on technical aspects to differentiate among various AWS services

  • MBA or equivalent

  • Speaking engagements at Cybersecurity conferences and industry events

  • SQL, analytics, and visualization experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
