Performs advanced drafting and calculations and intermediate design work; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer Tech IAssists in preparation of roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, equipment and building plans.Performs basic drafting and calculations in support of design activities; copies detailed plans and drawings.Prepares field notes.Files and makes copies.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer Tech IIIn addition to the duties listed aboveAssists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.Performs basic design work.Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.Transportation Engineer Tech IIIIn addition to the duties listed aboveLearns additional automated design methods or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal/lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Attends specialized design schools.Does some record-keeping.
