We are looking for a Research Associate to join our interdisciplinary RandD team that includes scientists in Salt Lake City and South San Francisco (this posting is for a role in Utah). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with a range of current molecular biology techniques, with particular focus on NGS. We are seeking a collegial teammate who is curious and rigorous, an individual who shares our enthusiasm for improving people's lives by building the products that power precision medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or support research experiments under the supervision of a Sr. Manager Scientist.
  • Conduct lab experiments/research to support and/or advance products, services and technology from initial feasibility through final protocol optimization, application testing and stability studies
  • Method development and preparing SOPs as needed
  • Procure chemicals, materials and reagents
  • Handle and prepare chemicals and biochemical reagents to perform experiments and develop methods and procedures
  • Dispose of chemical/biological waste properly; maintain records as appropriate
  • Maintain an organized, detailed and accurate record of all experimental data
  • Data analysis using tools such as Excel, Prism, R, etc
  • Document results and provide project status reports
  • Review literature and apply advanced knowledge

Qualifications

  • BA/BS or MS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, or a related discipline and1+ years of full-time experience working in a laboratory utilizing molecular biology techniques
  • Previous experience working with minimal supervision is a plus
  • Fluency with NGS technology and the broad range of associated molecular protocols, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, and NGS library preparations
  • Track record of achievement on challenging projects in industry and/or academia
  • Able to accurately document your work and effectively communicate progress in written and verbal form

  • Previous experience working with laboratory automation is a plus (Tecan, Hamilton, Bravo, Biomek, etc)

  • You are quantitative-minded and know your way around a computer. Experience with coding (R, Python, etc) and comfort with a command-line interface is a plus
  • A sense of humility; impeccable integrity; palpable inner drive; the competence to be self-sufficient but the strong desire to be part of a supportive team
