ATURE OF WORK:
Responsible for work of considerable difficulty in the timely and accurate processing of invoices and purchase orders for payment as well as all related records.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Matches required documentation for payment; verifies accuracy of computations; reviews documentation for proper authorization and coding that conforms to the County chart of accounts; apportions charges for billings involving more than one department.
- Performs data entry of required information for computerized payments. Assists in verification of accuracy of input prior to payment.
- Creates handwritten warrants when required.
- Communicates frequently with vendors and departments to resolve problems or potential problems. Performs independent research and organizes data for presentation as needed to resolve such discrepancies or problems.
- Maintains filing system for paid documentation and for computer generated records.
- Researches, organizes and reports specific information when requested.
- Schedules the timing of activities in the payables area to meet deadlines.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of bookkeeping practices; knowledge of office practices and procedures; knowledge of County policies relating to expenditures is desirable.
- Skill in verbal and written communications.
- Ability to use good judgment when resolving problems.
- Considerable skill in the operation of a computer and a ten-key calculator.
- Ability to make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure.
