Saginaw ISD Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) in Saginaw, Michigan

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. USW-Technician Group.
  2. Two (2) Full-time position, School year calendar.
  3. Rate of pay is $26.62 per hour.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) is responsible for assisting the occupational therapist in the assigned area of responsibility to administer student treatment programs. Performs direct treatment for students under the direction of a registered occupational therapist in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by a physician.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate of an approved program for occupational therapist assistants (required).
  2. State of Michigan registration to work as a certified occupational therapist assistant (required).
  3. Two years working with special education students (preferred).

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  1. Assists the occupational therapist with student evaluations and the development of progress reports related to occupational therapy.
  2. Assists the occupational therapist in developing written individual education plans and occupational therapy goals and objectives for students.
  3. Performs direct occupational therapy treatment on students per the direction and supervision of the occupational therapist.
  4. Assists the occupational therapist in accurately maintaining records of occupational therapy treatment procedures as prescribed for each student.
  5. Assists the occupational therapist in identifying occupational therapy instruction needs to be coordinated between the occupational therapy center and the classroom teacher/aide.
  6. Assists the occupational therapist in developing an ongoing occupational therapy program to be carried out by instructors, aides, and parents.
  7. Review occupational therapy treatment goals and student progress related to treatment monthly on his/her caseload.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for lifting and moving students up to 26 years of age; repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling, and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability; implementing behavior management plans and performing the essential job duties.
  10. Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.
  11. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week, and work year.
  12. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times.
  13. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
