Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Rolling Meadows, IL is seeking a Technical Editor and Writer who will develop and maintain process documentation, while ensuring compliance and conformance with higher-level policies, processes, and procedures. They will provide guidance with interpreting process documentation, as well as navigating the necessary tools for creating and maintaining documentation, to assure compliance. They will work directly with all functional organizations to ensure compliance throughout all process categories of the Division Quality Management System process documentation.

Position Summary / Responsibilities

We are looking for a candidate to join our small team withing the larger organization. Need a self-starting individual who works well with others and is a great team player. This position will write, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel will be required about 20% of the time.

  • Ability to coordinate scheduling both internal and with the A/F customer to meet schedules and perform face to face Technical Order Verifications on base.

  • Ability to plan and manage time with stakeholders and contract scheduler to coordinate between different programs on the contract.

  • Good communication skills – ability to relay and receive information.

  • Able to collaborate in a team environment.

  • Able to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of relevant experience;

  • Candidates with a: Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience will also be considered

  • Experience in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, specifications, and system description documents

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.

Physical attributes:

  • Must be able to change physical locations based upon need (i.e. must be able to travel)

  • Must be able to work in both external and internal environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS Degree and 3 year related experience; MS Degree and 1+ years of related experience

  • Possess an understanding of and ability to apply military technical order principles, concepts, practices, and standards

  • Have existing knowledge of military aircraft technical order editing/writing processes

  • Current active DoD Secret Clearance

  • Ability to facilitate/support review boards

  • Experience with XML, Arbor text and/or SGML

Salary Range: $62,600 - $93,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
