Aspen Mountain Medical Center Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse in Rock Springs, Wyoming

JOB SUMMARY: The Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) nurse is the patients first contact and experience with Aspen Mountain Medical Center. Great communication skills are essential to ensure positive patient and facility outcomes. Under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the PAT nurse conducts the pre-procedural assessment questioning, testing and organizing of surgical patients by performing clerical, medical historian, patient relations, and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area. The PAT nurse will network with facilities to gather patient records and history, and collaborate with surgeon and anesthesia providers to ensure quality patient care and safety. PAT nurse duties are primarily conducted on the telephone with patients, but also in person. Typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day, but the PAT nurse may be asked to work different hours, dependent upon the current work schedule and company needs. The PAT nurse generally does not work nights, weekends or holidays as part of their regularly scheduled hours, but may be asked to float or fill-in for Multidisciplinary RN duties on occasion.

QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming BLS required ACLS and PALS certification upon hire or must obtain within 6 months Knowledge of medical terminology preferred Previous experience working as a surgical nurse preferred Previous experience working with multiple electronic medical records preferred

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Uses MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiently to complete daily work assignments. 2. Performs required clerical working relating to the admission, transfer and discharge of a patient. 3. Keeps medical records complete and in order. Adds order sheets and progress notes. Ensures all part of the medical record are properly identified by patient label. 4. Charts patients medical history as stated by patient or guardian. 5. Assists perioperative nurses by picking up and delivering specimens, medications, charts, patients, requisitions, etc. to different departments as requested. 6. Provides assistance to staff in the organized workflow of daily unit operations. 7. Responds to patient and visitor inquiries/comments, referring to appropriate personnel as indicated. 8. Ensures proper notification of medical personnel regarding patient information and collaborates directly with physicians and provider offices. 9. Reports patient feedback, questions, comments and safety concerns to the proper channels. 10. Utilizes efficient organizational and time management skills. 11. Educates patients regarding orientation to the facility and what to expect. 13. Maintains a minimum of one of the following areas of competency: a. Surgical/GI Pre-Op, Surgical/GI PACU, Surgical/GI Circulating, medical floor nursing, scrub nursing. b. Secondary, tertiary and beyond areas of competency are highly encouraged. 14. Other duties as assigned.
