Pfaudler, Inc. Welding Engineer in Rochester, New York

Position Summary:

Provides welding-related support to production and engineering teams. Oversees the qualification of welders and weld procedures to ASME Section IX requirements. Familiar with various welding techniques including GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW. Assists with the maintenance of welding equipment and procurement of welding-related capital equipment as well as welding consumables. Seeks to elevate product quality and customer satisfaction through the strategic application of welding technology and knowledge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains welding procedures (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR) and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) in accordance with ASME Section VIII and Section IX requirements.

  • Monitors and maintains inventory of welding consumables.

  • Assists in the processing and disposition fabrication and welding-related nonconformances (NCRs) and corrective actions (CARs).

  • Maintains welding manuals and acts as a subject matter expert for input to the Quality Control Manual or other procedures.

  • Oversees testing of new welder candidates and provides training for new welders.

  • Provides oversight and mentoring for welders on the shop floor.

  • Serve as the point of contact for welding equipment and consumables suppliers.

  • Assists with the maintenance of welding equipment and procurement of welding-related capital equipment as well as welding consumables.

  • Reviews updates to related Codes and advises recommended manual or procedure changes to maintain compliance.

  • Serves as technical advisor to engineering and manufacturing personnel.

  • Review and approve all Vendor/Subcontractor Welding Procedures to assure conformance with ASME and Pfaudler requirements.

  • Perform audits of welding systems and controls.

  • Develop heat treating and stress relieving instructions based on code and specifications requirements and sound material and metallurgical practices.

  • Lead welding-related improvement projects.

  • Review customer welding specifications for impact to standard procedures.

  • Facilitate third party and customer inspections as required.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum AAS degree in Welding related field or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Two years’ experience working with ASME Code products and fabrication methods.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASME Section IX and Section VIII.

  • Competent at reading and evaluating written codes and specifications.

  • Ability to weld, operate welding equipment, and demonstrate welding techniques to others.

  • Certified Welding Engineer (AWS) is a plus.

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is a plus.

  • Experience with Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) techniques is a plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
