University of Rochester Lab Specialist I in Rochester, New York
Responsibilities
General Purpose:
Provide technical and day-to-day lab support to faculty engaged in teaching and research. The candidate will be primarily involved in activities in the teaching labs and will help develop, organize, guide, and trouble-shoot student projects that feature varying degrees of complexity. The role requires a multi-disciplinary approach and will include work with design, development, fabrication, utilization, and testing of specialized equipment.
Responsibilties:
Setup, breakdown, and troubleshoot undergraduate lab experiments..
Support undergraduate labs and projects in process and on location.
Development of undergraduate lab materials under direction of instructional staff.
Supports of undergraduate project management, purchasing, inventory, instructional materials.
Supports of research faculty activities and projects
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (required)
Preferred - BS in Engineering (Mechanical Preferred) or Mechanical Engineering Technology
At least 1year of relevant experience working in an R&D type lab environment or equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
Ability to work independently on design, assembly, and testing of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. (preferred)
Practical hands-on skills and be comfortable working on a variety of projects in a laboratory. (preferred)
Basic mechanical and electrical fabrication skills for prototyping systems. (preferred)
Computer skills in CAD, MATLAB, or equivalent testing and/or analysis software. (preferred)
Experience with basic 3-D printing. (preferred)
Familiarity with mechanical lab instrumentation including but not limited to strain gauges, pressure transducers, load cells, LVDTs, RVDTs, extensometers, thermocouples, accelerometers, high-speed video, and various other electronic measuring systems. (preferred)

Pay Range
Pay Range: $21.36 - $29.90 Hourly
The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
