Description of Duties
This is a technical position involving the laboratory analysis of water, food, soil, wastewater, and other sample matrices. The employee may work in a laboratory, test site, or satellite laboratory. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a higher-level staff member. This position differs from Environmental Chemist III by virtue of the more complex laboratory tests performed and lead supervisory responsibility. Lead supervision is exercised over Environmental Chemist IIIs operating laboratory equipment and conducting tests. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry; OR,
(B) Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in a natural science* including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours** in Chemistry, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in laboratory testing, examination, and/or analysis in an environmental laboratory; OR,
(C) Graduation with an Associate's degree in a natural science* including successful completion of at least twelve (12) semester credit hours* in Chemistry, plus two (2) years paid-full time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (B) above; OR,
(D) An equivalent combination of education* and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
**Natural sciences includes Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, and Zoology and their subsets.
