We are seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector who will interact daily with project team members, clients, contractors, and other project-related persons. The ideal candidate will read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications, and inspect various facets of underground utilities, road, and bridge items to determine acceptability. The inspector will follow applicable QA/QC practices and procedures, monitor construction work for compliance with all project documents, measure and calculate quantities of assigned work, and ensure that installed materials meet all specifications and testing requirements.
Responsibilities
Interact daily with project team members, clients, contractors, and other project-related persons.
Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications.
Inspect various facets of underground utilities, road, and bridge items to determine acceptability.
Follow applicable QA/QC practices and procedures.
Monitor construction work for compliance with all project documents including plans and contractor submittals.
Measure, calculate, and determine all quantities of assigned work and/or installed materials.
Ensure that installed materials meet all specifications and testing requirements.
Report any deficiencies in the contractor's work to the Project Engineer.
Prepare Daily Inspector’s Reports using FieldBook.
Review Daily Inspector’s Reports of other technicians, note deficiencies, and seek correction as necessary.
Essential Skills
3+ years of experience as a Construction Inspector on MDOT or municipal projects.
Field Book/Field Manager experience.
Clean driving record.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
MDOT FieldManager Training.
Storm Water Operation Certification.
Michigan Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) – Comprehensive Certification.
MDOT Density Technology Certification.
Michigan Concrete Field Testing – MCA – Level 1 Minimum.
MDOT Aggregate Technician Certification.
MDOT Material Acceptance Process Seminar.
MDOT Bridge Deck Construction Inspection & Bridge Rehabilitation Inspection.
MDOT Concrete Inspection Certification.
MDOT Hot Mix Asphalt (Bituminous) Paving Certification.
5+ years of experience.
Municipal road projects experience.
BlueBeam experience.
Leadership capabilities.
Work Environment
The Construction Inspector will work outdoors at road/highway construction job sites, with occasional office meetings. They can go straight to job sites and do not need to report to an office every morning. The dress code includes jeans, steel toe boots, and no dangling clothing or jewelry. This is an hourly position with time and a half after 40 hours, including holiday and PTO. Weekly hours could range from 40-55 with some Saturdays during the summer busy project season. The employee will be given a company truck.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
