Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Senior Storm Water Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to lead the design, planning, and implementation of stormwater management systems for various infrastructure projects. This role requires a deep understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and regulatory compliance, along with the ability to innovate and implement sustainable solutions. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with the expertise to lead complex projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure that stormwater systems are both efficient and environmentally responsible.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Stormwater Management System Design:
Lead the design and planning of stormwater management systems, including drainage networks, stormwater ponds, infiltration systems, and water quality treatment systems.
Develop detailed design calculations, hydrological and hydraulic models, and drawings using relevant software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, XP-SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
Design systems that meet local regulations, industry standards, and sustainability goals, ensuring effective stormwater management and flood prevention.
Hydrologic and Hydraulic Analysis:
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to assess stormwater flow, water quality, and system capacity for various types of infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, commercial, residential, and urban developments).
Perform flood risk assessments and design appropriate mitigation strategies for flood-prone areas.
Use advanced stormwater modeling tools to simulate rainfall events, runoff, and stormwater system performance.
Regulatory Compliance and Permitting:
Ensure that all stormwater management designs and systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., NPDES, EPA, local stormwater management codes).
Prepare and submit the necessary documentation and reports for permitting and regulatory approval.
Stay up-to-date on stormwater regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance and minimize environmental impacts.
Sustainability and Green Infrastructure:
Incorporate sustainable stormwater management solutions, such as Low Impact Development (LID) techniques, green infrastructure (e.g., permeable pavements, bioretention areas, vegetated swales), and best management practices (BMPs).
Ensure designs consider environmental impacts, water conservation, and the promotion of ecosystem health.
Advocate for the use of innovative and sustainable stormwater practices to address both current and future challenges related to urbanization and climate change.
Project Management and Leadership:
Manage and oversee multiple stormwater projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet client specifications and quality standards.
Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers and technical staff, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, environmental, and infrastructure engineers) to ensure that stormwater systems are seamlessly integrated into overall project designs.
Manage client relationships, ensuring timely communication and addressing any concerns related to stormwater management.
Site Inspections and Construction Oversight:
Conduct site assessments and inspections during construction to ensure stormwater management systems are being implemented according to design specifications.
Address any design issues or challenges that arise during the construction phase and provide technical support to contractors and project managers.
Perform commissioning of stormwater systems, ensuring that they function as designed and meet performance criteria.
Risk Management and Reporting:
Identify potential risks related to stormwater management, such as flooding, erosion, or contamination, and develop mitigation strategies.
Prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals for stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, clients, and senior management.
Monitor the performance of installed systems and provide recommendations for improvements or maintenance.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in stormwater management, hydrology, and hydraulics design, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role.
Experience with stormwater design for a variety of infrastructure projects (e.g., urban developments, transportation, and flood management).
Proven expertise in the use of stormwater modeling and design software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, XP-SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of hydrology, hydraulic modeling, flood control measures, and stormwater management best practices.
Strong understanding of local, state, and federal stormwater regulations and permitting processes.
Expertise in sustainable stormwater management practices, including Low Impact Development (LID) and green infrastructure.
Strong technical writing skills for preparing reports, technical documentation, and regulatory submissions.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage projects and mentor junior engineers.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
Certifications: Professional certifications such as PE (Professional Engineer), CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager), or LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) would be advantageous.
Advanced Knowledge: Experience with emerging stormwater management technologies, such as smart water systems, or new regulatory standards.
Leadership Experience: Experience managing teams and leading complex, multi-disciplinary stormwater projects.
Sustainability Focus: Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices related to stormwater management and water conservation.
