Job Description Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible to drive design solutions and implementation for components, complex assemblies and subsystems of Electrical/Electronic aeronautical hardware with focus on mechanical and thermal aspects; to look after the requirements flow down from Propulsion System to Electrical System Level; to liaise with independent organization or suppliers to provide technical and programmatic guidance on components, complex assemblies and subsystems design, validation and technology accrual plan outlining and execution and to perform, with limited guidance, analysis and evaluation of the third parties’ deliverables compliance with product/program requirements and business standards, practices and procedures.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Main responsibilities are:

  • To coordinate the development of electronic and electrical components, complex assemblies and subsystems requirements and designs relevant, but not limited, to electrical motor/generator, electrical drive and actuation systems, power converters, engine sensors and accessories.

  • To carry out pre-size, definition and trade-off analysis and validation studies aiming at drawing the optimal mechanical and thermal solution of mechanical features within electrical/electronic equipments.

  • To Create definitions of parts, modules, and assemblies in the form of 2D cross sections, 3D models, tolerance stack-ups, and various electronic data formats to support analysis, manufacturing, assembly, tooling, and inspection

  • To support testing and validation activities, based on technology accrual and product development plans, of electrical components, complex assemblies and subsystems, up to the final stages of the Electrical System Integration, to assure the operational and functional requirements compliance with product/program requirements.

  • To liaise with the appointed Avio Aero or GE Aviation engineering team stakeholders in the execution of the project development, product definition, technology maturation activities.

  • To contribute to suppliers steering and performance monitoring to ensure the overall Propulsion System integration and compliance with the intended functions.

  • To contribute to the formulation and implementation of plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments.

  • To contribute to technical and program reviews.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • High school/Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Well trained in Mechanical Design of electrical/electronic parts.

  • Experience in Mechanical assembly design, including, but not limited to:

  • structural design

  • Thermal and fluid dynamics design

  • dynamic modelling for time-varying multi-physical analyses

  • mechanical integration

  • CAD (modelling) ,drafting and Geometrical Dimensional & Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Stack-up analysis

  • Knowledge of mechanical drives that interface with electric motors and generators (gearboxes, clutches etc..)

  • Knowledge of fluidic System component (valves, filters, pipes, accessories, sensors, heat exchangers) and Fluidic systems (fuel, oil, air)

  • Proficiency in written and oral English.

  • Work Visa, in accordance with local regulation, is required
