Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant performs staff level accounting and analytical tasks. Has principal responsibilities for fixed asset and performs daily, monthly and annual general ledger accounting tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Responsible for fixed asset accounting. Reconciles cost, accumulated depreciation, depreciation expense, and gain/loss accounts. Records additions, disposals and transfers and maintains supporting documentation. 2. Enforces capitalization policies. Reconciled Construction in Progress and analyzes Repairs and Maintenance for proper classification. 3. Prepares annual depreciation budget. 4. Prepares quarterly capital expenditure reporting to budget. 5. Provide tax depreciation schedule for annual tax returns. 6. Provides fixed asset information for insurance annual renewal 7. Administers lease accounting. Reviews lease documents for office space, skybox, and subleases. Determines appropriate accounting treatment. Prepares future commitment schedules and balance roll forwards for leases for the Firms annual financial statements and budget. 8. Performs daily and monthly general ledger duties. Proposes journal entries directly related to areas of responsibility and in response to reclass and adjustment requests. 9. Reconcile and provide reporting for Legal Tender account. 10. Analyzes the profit and loss statement for irregularities or abnormalities. Makes inquires and documents variance unanticipated variance to budget and/or prior year results.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Experience: Minimum of three years job related experience required, including internships, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or other client relationship-based organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Experience in fixed assets accounting is preferred. Other Minimum Qualifications: Ability to generate a large volume of work and be capable of making sound decisions in the absence of clear instructions. Exceptional written and verbal communication and listening skills. Accurate typing, word processing skills and ability to pay strict attention to detail. Spelling, punctuation and use of grammar must be of high quality. Must have strong organizational skills. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through both written and oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. Ability to maintain flexibility regarding work assignments to work overtime on short notice required.
