Amentum System Safety Engineer in Richland, Washington

Supports implementation and performance of activities associated with the newly created, first of a kind Chemical Safety Management Program (CSMP). Participates in CSMP execution functional group planning and performance of program activities while demonstrating compliance to program regulatory and contractual requirements. Performs assessment and line surveillance activities to evaluate program and verify process chemical hazards have been appropriately identified and engineered and administrative process chemical hazard controls and safeguards are implemented as required. Prepare materials that provide response and dispositions for technical and administrative comments identified from internal project and external oversight reviews. Support program status updates to project management and Department of Energy representatives. Supports overall performance of the safety and health system safety functional group and CSMP activities.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Provide technical expertise/guidance to engineering, construction, start-up, and commissioning regarding operability safety and process chemical safety.

  • Reviews design documents, operating procedures, work planning documents, and commissioning test documents to support identification of hazards and appropriate determination of hazard controls and safeguards is completed.

  • Supports safety management program implementation and plant readiness activities.

  • Reviews changes related to chemical safety impacts, introduction of new process chemical, or significant changes to ensure that changes with impacts to hazards to workers, public, or the environment are provided to the appropriate approval authority.

  • Supports facility walkdowns for job hazard analysis and worker safety and health efforts.

  • Supports implementation of 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health and Process Safety Management 29 CFR 1910.119 requirements.

  • Supports Worker Safety through Design reviews and document development.

  • Perform assessments and surveillances for chemical safety management program.

  • Supports process hazard analysis efforts.

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a science or engineering field, or a related discipline from an accredited university or equivalent education/experience.

  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience. In lieu of a degree, 9 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in hazardous waste treatment facilities, chemical processing facilities, DOE facilities, or DOD facilities preferred.

  • Experience with national consensus codes and standards preferred.

  • Certification, chartered, or professional licenses in engineering or safety disciplines, preferred.

  • Familiarity with the Center for Chemical Process Safety, Guidelines for Risk Based Process Safety, preferred.

  • Familiarity with OSHA PSM "Process Safety Management" per 29 CFR 1910.119, compliance audits, process hazard analysis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $87,011.43 - $133,126.59 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as neede d, with possible nightshift work.
