Amentum LAB Analytical Operations Manager in Richland, Washington

The LAB Analytical Operations Manager is responsible for all laboratory analytical operations activities performed by laboratory technicians (craft professionals) and their supervisors (staff professionals). The LAB Analytical Operations Manager will be directly responsible for coordinating analytical operations associated with project process and compliance samples. This individual performs complex assignments within approved schedules and staffing levels. This position is expected to utilize independent decision-making regarding resolution of problems. This position will coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments in order to ensure lab analytical operations are not interrupted.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

  • Perform all work in compliance with environmental permits and regulations.

  • Supervise assigned personnel (including 24/7 rotating shift personnel) in the completion of complex work. Provide timely and appropriate communications and guidance for implementing approved programs and procedures, and day-to-day leadership and direction.

  • Represent Plant Operations for interfaces with other project organizations on issues affecting LAB analytical operations.

  • Monitor and assess ongoing LAB analytical operational activities, evaluate performance metrics, and recommend or implement appropriate action to achieve and maintain required levels of performance.

  • Support implementation of project wide initiatives affecting LAB personnel and resources.

  • Create plans for the Laboratory Analytical Operations team to be ready to provide 24/7 process chemistry support.

  • Review LAB analytical laboratory procedures, emergency response procedures, and other LAB operational documents and ensure that they can be effectively implemented by LAB operating staff on a 24/7 basis.

  • Work closely with lab personnel to develop procedures, work instructions and training materials for 24/7 analytical operations and support training implementation.

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises assigned personnel. Assigns complex work and sets work priorities. Provides technical direction, training, and evaluation of assigned personnel.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related scientific or engineering degree and 10+ years’ experience in the area of expertise (required) and/or a combination of laboratory operations in nuclear or high hazard waste treatment plants and/or commercial nuclear facilities. 3 years of supervisory experience in Operations Management in a nuclear facility or a high hazard waste treatment plant required. Demonstrated knowledge of DOE operating policies, rules and regulations, or knowledge of commercial nuclear facilities (e.g. NRC/INPO) regulations and requirements, and knowledge of industry codes and standards in the area of expertise. Shift operations in a production laboratory (process control) supporting a production facility, including working knowledge of methods development, analytical instrument operation, wet chemistry techniques, preparation of standards, laboratory quality/certification, etc.

OR

Associate degree in chemistry or related scientific or engineering degree and 12+ years’ experience in the area of expertise (required) and/or a combination of laboratory operations in nuclear or high hazard waste treatment plants and/or commercial nuclear facilities. 3 years of supervisory experience in Operations Management in a nuclear facility or a high hazard waste treatment plant required. Demonstrated knowledge of DOE operating policies, rules and regulations, or knowledge of commercial nuclear facilities (e.g. NRC/INPO) regulations and requirements, and knowledge of industry codes and standards in the area of expertise. Shift operations in a production laboratory (process control) supporting a production facility, including working knowledge of methods development, analytical instrument operation, wet chemistry techniques, preparation of standards, laboratory quality/certification, etc.

OR

High School Diploma and 15 years’ experience in the area of expertise (required) and/or a combination of laboratory operations in nuclear or high hazard waste treatment plants and/or commercial nuclear facilities. 3 years of supervisory experience in Operations Management in a nuclear facility or a high hazard waste treatment plant required. Demonstrated knowledge of DOE operating policies, rules and regulations, or knowledge of commercial nuclear facilities (e.g. NRC/INPO) regulations and requirements, and knowledge of industry codes and standards in the area of expertise. Shift operations in a production laboratory (process control) supporting a production facility, including working knowledge of methods development, analytical instrument operation, wet chemistry techniques, preparation of standards, laboratory quality/certification, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site .

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $128,402.60 - $206,078.53 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
