POSITION INFORMATION:This is an Open Competitive / Countywide promotional recruitment being conducted to fill currentvacancies at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. See Conditions of Employment for information regarding eligibility requirements.Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties involved in the operation of the emergency services systems and various communication devices to receive, route, relay and dispatch calls for emergency and non-emergency law enforcement and other services; and performs related duties as required. For more information on this position, please see the Job Specification athttps://www.washoecounty.us/humanresources/jobspecs.phpMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:One year of full-time clerical experience, preferably in a law enforcement environment; OR six (6)months of full-time Communication Specialist experience in all areas of Police/Fire/EMS communications.LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE* Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of employment, current certification on the NCIC/CJIS criminal history information systems.* Emergency Medical Dispatch (MPDS) and CPR certification required within one year of employment.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:* To be eligible, top candidates will be required to undergo an in-depth, thorough, extensive and detailed background investigation:* Must pass a drug test* Must pass a background investigation* Must be willing to submit a set of fingerprints* Must complete and submit a personal history statement* Must pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examinationAdditionally:* Must be able to remain calm in emergency situations.* Must be able to work in a noisy environment and be able to sit for long periods of time.* Must be able to pass a data entry test with 3,786 KPH (keystrokes per hour) with 95% accuracy* Applicants must be willing to work shifts, weekends and holidays.* The Washoe County Employees Association (WCEA) Non-Supervisory Unit covers the Communications Specialist position.
