Job Description Summary
Consulting Services, a part of GE Vernova, has offices in multiple countries and offers global clients (external & GE Vernova verticals) a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Consulting Services at GE Vernova is a team that has comprehensive global experience in power system studies including in-depth experience in analyzing shunt and series compensations, application of SVCs, FACTS, HVDC, synchronous condensers, and power plant and transmission system dynamic controls. Our global team has more than 500 person-years of professional experience with leading power system simulation and analysis software tools like Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF) software and Multi-Area Production Simulation (MAPS) software, as well as PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, EMTP, ASPEN, ETAP, other commercial applications, and many specialized in-house tools. Our team also has deep experience with voltage control and reactive planning issues as well as the tools and procedures that are most effective in studying them. We perform detailed steady state, voltage and transient stability studies of regional transmission systems, generation interconnections, and renewable generation impacts, as well as specialized studies of sub-synchronous resonance and torsional interaction.
Job Description
Role Summary /Purpose
As a member of the Consulting Services Grid Integration and Stability (GIS) practice area , the selected candidate will be an active contributor to the GE Vernova business initiatives related to power systems and power electronics equipment and services to support energy transition.
This position is eligible for remote work within the United States.
Essential Responsibilities
Performpowersystemtransientstudies,anddetailedequipmentmodelingusingappropriate softwaretools
Evaluategridcodecompliance standards and their impact on renewable energy projects in bulkpowersystems
Supportdevelopment of transmissionanddistribution connected IBR and distributed energy resource (DER) productsforevolvingcodesandstandardsthroughparticipation in industrystandardsgroups
Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives and FACTS.
Create,modifyandparametrizesimulationmodelsrepresentingGE Vernova inverter-based resource (IBR) productslike wind turbines,solarandbatterystorage
Supportcustomerswithpowersystemsengineeringexpertise;includingmodeling,analysis,equipmentdesign and specification,andfailuremodeanalysis
Effectivelycommunicateresults to bothinternal and externalcustomers by preparingdetailedwrittenreportsandpresentationsdescribinganalysesperformed,solutionsdeveloped, and customer valuepropositions
Enhanceindustryknowledgeandpresenttechnicalcontentinregionalforumsandconferences;serveas a thoughtleader in industryactivities

Qualifications/Requirements
Master’sdegree in electrical engineering or electricpowerengineering
Minimum ten (10) years of experienceperformingtransientanalysisusingsimulationtoolslikePSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP
Minimum five (5) years of experiencewiththeuseandapplication of commonprogramminglanguages(e.g.Python,MATLAB, FORTRAN)
Strong background in power system analysis
Solid understanding of inverter-based resources (control system) design and application considerations
Eligibility Requirements
- Willingness to travelfor supportingprojectwork, meeting team members, attending industry standard working group meetings and conferences (up to 10%)
Desired Characteristics
Excellentinterpersonalcommunicationskills(e.g.ability to effectivelycommunicate with all levels of GE Vernova andcustomer/plantstaff)
Ph.D.degreeinelectricalengineering,electricpowerengineering, or relatedfield of study – five years of experience will be adequate with this qualification instead of ten years with Master's degree
Advancedexperienceinelectromagnetictransientsimulationtoolslike PSCAD/EMTDC,EMTP (e.g.FORTRANprogramming for developing user-writtenmodelsin PSCAD (“blackbox” models) and in EMTP, use of Python/MATLAB scripting toautomateexecutionandanalysis of multiplesimulations)
Experience with steadystateanddynamicanalysisusinglargedatabasesimulationtoolslikePSS/E,PowerFactory,PSLF and use of programming languages like C and C++ is a plus
Experience in creating and modifyingdynamicusermodelsinsimulationtoolslikePSS/E,PowerFactoryandPSLF is a plus
Demonstratedapplication of complexmathematicsandengineering to real-world electricpowersystemproblems
Industryreputation,priorIEEE/CIGREpublishedarticlesrelated to practicalpowersystemsengineeringtopics,participation in industrystandardsworkinggroups
