ZwitterCo Applications Engineer - Food Process & Specialty in Remote, Massachusetts
Overview of Role
ZwitterCo is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to join our team. This role will be a key contributor in ensuring the successful, high-impact application of ZwitterCo's cutting-edge membranes across various industries with an emphasis on Food Process & Specialty applications.
The candidate will play both an internal- and external-facing role and serve as a subject matter expert on the implementation and integration of ZwitterCo food and process membranes into membrane systems in various food and bioprocessing industries. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in crossflow (tangential flow) filtration system design, including spiral wound reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration; membrane process integration within larger plants; and targeted experience in dairy membrane operations. In addition to food and process applications, candidates should be eager to lend support for water and wastewater membrane applications, both at food processing facilities and at other industrial customers.
Key to this role is the ability to work across functions in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Successful candidates will be highly motivated and able to self-manage work effort allocated to different priorities without losing track of less urgent projects. Responsibilities include:
Build expertise in technical subject matter for ZwitterCo products and targeted applications/markets and serve as a subject matter expert for end users and/or customers
Partner with the sales team in the customer discovery process and evaluate commercial opportunities for technical feasibility and risk
Provide post-sales technical support for partners and end users to ensure customer success, including visits to customer sites to check on product performance or troubleshooting
Assist with the development of process and system design guidelines for integration and fabrication partners in target applications/markets for spiral-wound membrane products
Contribute to the internal knowledgebase through assimilation of existing research and planning internal studies to gather product performance data
Develop customer proposals which include providing a design and cost estimation for membrane systems using internal tools and datasets
Provide in-person and online technical training for OEM engineers and/or end users
Evaluate, mitigate, and communicate technical risks associated with new applications, projects, and/or partners
Assist with authoring technical guidance documents and give oral/written presentations to customers, industry partners, and ZwitterCo business leaders as needed
Qualifications
A university degree in an engineering discipline is required unless the candidate has extensive previous work experience in a comparable role. A degree in chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering is preferred
5+ years of experience supporting crossflow membrane systems in an applications engineering role is required
Technical expertise in the design, membrane selection, and operation of membrane systems within food processing plants
Practical knowledge of technical issues and concerns that are unique to food processing membrane applications
Familiarity with current product lines for RO/NF/UF membranes common in the market
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Comfort with some degree of public speaking (hosting training, webinars, etc) is strongly preferred
Schedule, Travel, Compensation, and Location
This full-time position will be located in Woburn, MA, or remotely within the US for highly qualified non-local candidates and reports to the Applications Engineering Manager.
Travel for this role is expected to be up to 25%, mainly consisting of customer success site visits and conferences. Most travel is expected to be short (2-3 nights away).
