Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. ​​Within Azure Data, the business intelligence team builds and maintains Power BI which is the undisputed leader in BI tool in the industry today and serves as the bridge between data professionals & Office users. Power BI’s core value proposition is to enable end users to get answers & insights from their data through data visualization.​

​​We’re looking for proficient Principal Software Engineer, full stack, to develop amazing end-to-end features across Power BI's web and desktop application, to make Power BI ubiquitous and enable our customers to extract the full value of their data. You will solve hard problems of creating AI assisted user experiences, running and maintaining a distributed system for Power BI hiding this complexity behind easy to use and intuitive experiences. You’ll help build and operate services with world-class availability, performance, and scalability. You will deliver modern user interfaces that are performant, reliable, secure, responsive, and accessible.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical lead for high-impact projects, ensuring timely delivery with a focus on quality. While not managing a team directly, collaborates closely with engineers to guide project direction and execution, ensuring that technical and business objectives align seamlessly.

  • Offers deep technical guidance in areas including architecture, design, code reviews, development, quality assurance, and live site management. This role is pivotal in upholding the technical excellence of the team's output, contributing significantly to project success.

  • Collaborates with Product Managers to identify and articulate the most critical, urgent, or impactful areas, facilitating clear project scopes and the efficient division of responsibilities among teams. This ensures seamless collaboration and maximizes project efficiency within the business's rhythm of sprints.

  • Embodies and promotes Microsoft's values through mentorship and collaboration, acting as a role model for engineers. By demonstrating best practices in grooming tasks and managing project backlogs, encourages a culture of continuous learning and innovation among peers.

  • Engages in partnerships with peer teams engaged in similar technical domains, enhancing cross-team collaboration, and leveraging shared knowledge and experiences. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • ​​Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of mentoring and coaching other software engineers. ​

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications :

  • ​​10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • Experience in building and releasing distributed, high-scale cloud services on Azure, AWS or similar.

  • Proven ability to create a strategy that translates business needs into workable technology solutions.

  • Establish technical standards and drive system architecture, engineering practices, and engineering methodologies.​

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
