Windows Autopatch is a cloud service designed to automate updates for Windows, Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams. By leveraging Microsoft Entra identity service (formerly AAD) and Microsoft Intune, we extend the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud platform to create a secure, productive, and turnkey computing environment for enterprises.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer , you will be responsible for architecture, development, and operation of core backend services that power various features and scenarios in Autopatch services. You will build next generation platform that integrates advanced systems for storage, caching, message, streaming using latest Azure technologies. Your expertise in designing large scale ng systems will be pivotal as you enhance the architecture and efficiency for enterprise scale. You will lead efforts to optimize data storage, improve computational efficiencies, and ensure strict SLOs are met for commercial scenarios.

The responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to comprehend and identify user requirements, scope solutions, estimate work, and schedule deliverables.

  • Lead discussions on the architecture of products or solutions and apply engineering principles to establish robust and maintainable architecture and designs.

  • Leads by example to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.

  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and mentors / monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

  • Proactively identifying technical debt and other issues impacting the performance or reliability of the software and devising solutions.

  • Taking part in code reviews, both as a reviewer and a reviewee, to ensure the quality of the software and promote best practices within the team.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years' experience building microservices with working in Kubernetes (or similar), REST API design and construction.

  • 3+ years of experience in cloud development and proven record of maintaining enterprise-scale services including build and deployment pipelines.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, Java, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, Java, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Confident and articulate in expressing ideas to a mixed audience with varying views and challenges

  • Cultural sensitivity and a proven ability to work with teams and partners across multiple geographies.

  • A sense of personal ownership, together with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines while managing internal stakeholder expectations

  • Self-motivated and organized to deliver results

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
