Key job responsibilities
Amazon’s Project Kuiper is seeking a Hardware Development Manager who combines superb technical, analytical, and leadership capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. You will be responsible for managing the development of high-bandwidth optical networking systems for space-based optical (laser) communications between satellites. This person must be comfortable leading a diverse team of top-notch developers and collaborating with our Production teams. We’re looking for people who innovate and love solving hard problems! You will work hard, have fun, and of course, make history!
You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a high degree of autonomy and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
5+ years of experience in managing broad technical teams (Systems, Hardware, Software, Networking, Integration & Test) across full product life cycles, from concept to production
Experience with explaining complex concepts and designs to colleagues across disciplines
Experience in communicating with end users, business teams and management to collect requirements, describe product features and refine technical designs
Experience managing electronics supplier partners in development and production
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Experience managing development programs with DFX (Design to Cost, Test, Manufacturing) mechanisms
Experience with the process for qualifying hardware and software for reliable operation in space
Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs
Ability to provide thought leadership and key input on new initiatives as well as on programs underway
Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization
Knowledge of the opto-electronics and telecommunications industry and component suppliers
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
