CITY OF RALEIGH Maintenance Technician - Repairs (Water Distribution) in Raleigh, North Carolina

Raleigh Waters Water Distribution division is seeking a highly motivated Maintenance Technician for our Repair Program to play a vital role in ensuring the delivery of safe, sustainable water to our growing community.

Work Hours: 6:30AM-3PM Please note: This position requires a rotating on-call schedule and the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs semi-skilled or skilled general maintenance supporting City department(s) or maintenance function; selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks; performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Operates and maintains assigned equipment and tools; performs inspections to ensure safe operating conditions; performs routine repairs and/or replacement of parts; cleans and performs preventative maintenance; and monitors need for replacement or advanced repairs.
  • Prioritizes and responds to customer requests and addresses issues or maintenance needs; reviews operational issues and/or parts requirements; performs troubleshooting of equipment issues which may include HVAC, electrical and/or plumbing.
  • Plans, monitors and reviews inventory, resources and materials needs; initiates orders for resources based on requirements; may work with contract workers and trade specialists by scheduling and coordinating repairs and maintenance services.
  • Maintains activity logs, records, work orders and related reports.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED and two years of utilities experience or experience related to the fields listed below as shown:

  • Landscaping: installer, maintenance, irrigation
  • Construction: grading, storm drain, site work, builder, plumber, any utility construction (including fiber installation), road construction
  • Mechanic: heavy equipment, HVAC, hydraulic systems
  • Farming: manual labor, equipment operating
  • Moving Company: labor, truck driver
  • General Municipal Worker: utility inspector
  • Tech School Student: mechanical
  • Firefighter: full or part-time

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Driver's License, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire, and a satisfactory driving record.
