Professional Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: Summary of Duties: The Cattle Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the Department of Animal Sciences cow/calf herd (Beef Center), the feedlot (Cattle Feeding Lab) and meat sales (WSU Premium Beef). The manager is responsible for planning, timing and directing personnel resources and facilities for major cow-calf herd and feedlot events (calving, breeding, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, pasture grazing schedules, livestock sales) and to meet the needs of the WSU Premium Beef program. This position coordinates resources, time and facility issues, communication and organizational issues to coordinate multiple research, extension, and class usages. Additionally, the manager teaches classes as assigned by the departmental chair. The Cattle Operations Manager is an important representative of the Department of Animal Sciences and WSU to the beef cattle industry. Required Qualifications: • Positions require a Bachelor's degree in zoology, animal science, or closely related field and three (3) years of experience in a laboratory animal care facility which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. • Any combination of relevant education and progressively responsible animal care experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. • Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist may be required within one (1) year of employment. • Knowledge and experience with the beef industry; knowledge and experience with pasture and range management; knowledge and experience with budgeting and economic forecasting. • Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences or closely related field. • A minimum of three (3) years of experience managing a beef cattle operation. • A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. • Must have a valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in Animal Sciences or related field. • One (1) year teaching experience. • Must have the ability to obtain a pesticide/herbicide license and a commercial driver's license (CDL), if needed.
