CITY OF PUEBLO Emergency Medical Officer (EMO) in Pueblo, Colorado

POSITION: Emergency Medical Officer (EMO)

DUTIES: Assumes charge of patient care at the scene Performs advanced life support procedures such as intubations, intravenous infusion, cardiac monitoring, and drug therapies as outlined in the Pueblo County Prehospital Practice Guidelines Efficiently, safely and in accordance with established policy, operates all Fire Department apparatus as needed Assumes command at the scene of emergencies, as needed Completes Fire Department reports as needed Responds to medical emergency calls as part of a team to render emergency care, as needed When not performing Emergency Medical Officer functions, acts as Firefighter in all capacities as identified in the Firefighter job description Operates Fire Department apparatus when necessary Participates as a team member in all functions of emergency and non-emergency operations as directed or needed At all times maintains medical, appliances, equipment, tools and supplies in proper operating condition, replenished, cleaned, and ready for use in accordance with established policy Performs daily inspections of apparatus and equipment; and immediately reports deficiencies that cannot be corrected to the commander Maintains an itemized inventory of supplies, drugs and equipment on the apparatus Documents and maintains logs and other records on equipment and assists the Company Commander in obtaining information for necessary reports Timely and effectively communicates with other department members and superiors pertaining to equipment status; response and inspection activities; and recommendations relating problems or concerns arising within the area of responsibility Instructs or assists in the instruction of Fire Department CPR, EMT-Basic, EMT I, and Paramedic programs Respects and uses the chain of command and performs such other lawful duties and orders as prescribed by superior officers Participates in ongoing Fire Department training programs, EMT continuing education, field audits, CPR instructor Classes, etc. Acts in a higher capacity when called upon

REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, this position requires the following for external candidates: At least three (3) years of continuous and successful experience in the fire service A valid Candidate Physical Agility Testing certification (CPAT) A valid state health department approved EMT - Paramedic Certification A valid driver s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver s license within 30 days of employment License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Lives, eats, and sleeps at the station during 24-hour or more work shift assignments, including weekends and holidays, and works overtime with little or no notice Maintains considerate living practices and good hygiene, as well as adapting and altering living practices with respect to other individuals while on duty is a must Engages in strenuous physical activity during daylight and night hours for extended periods with adverse and/or interrupted sleep and rest patterns Due to the nature of unpredictable and unforeseeable events that characterize the fire service, the work requires varying degrees of physical responses from sedentary work to very heavy work Operates in all weather and catastrophic conditions; natural disasters; extreme heat or cold; high wind; dense smoke; close proximity to fire, fumes, and toxic or explosive atmospheres; high noise levels; extreme heights; structurally weakened buildings; traffic hazards; hazardous medical emergencies; etc. Performs prolonged walking, standing, climbing, lifting, and is in and out of vehic e/apparatus on a frequent basis Works in and wears fire department PPE including a self-contained breathing apparatus and hearing protection during emergency operations for extended periods of time

As a condition of continued employment, individuals must:

Stay current on all licenses and certifications as required to perform the job Be willing to participate in an ongoing physical fitness program Maintain active status as an EMT Intermediate or higher with the designated Pueblo Fire Department Medical Advisor

WAGE: $95,538.12 Annually

SHIFTS: : *40 hours / per week *Hours may vary
