HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT:

The Product Compliance Engineer is responsible for supporting regulatory compliance to all brands under Oregon Tool. Under the guidance of leadership in both Quality and Engineering the Product Compliance Engineer will support project teams and develop, implement and maintain material, environmental, regulatory, and safety compliance requirements, certifications and guidelines for all company products. In addition, this role is responsible for providing education to team members and the development of data systems and metrics to assure Oregon Tool products remain in compliance within markets served, support records development, and product tracking.

THE DETAILS:

Deliver Product/Material Compliance

  • Project team member responsible for assuring new/modified product meets both material regulation and product certification requirements

  • Responsible for researching, understanding and properly applying regulatory and industry objectives for product sustainability programs (e.g., environmental compliance, PFAS, RoHS, REACH, Prop 65, TSCA, other materials compliance, LCA, Environmental Product Declarations, sustainable product initiatives, etc)

  • Develop a self-sustaining system to provide material/product declarations of conformity and compliance certificates on demand

  • Support project meetings, Design Reviews, FMEA’s, and Hazard Reviews to define material and/or testing protocols for product certifications

  • Partner with Product Safety Engineering to enable a cohesive approach toward Product Requirements definition and House of Quality development

  • Research, identify, interpret and apply relevant standards, regulations and requirements for new products for intended markets (domestic and international)

  • Conduct material and product regulatory and compliance risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies/plans to ensure business continuity and support growth initiatives.

  • Act as primary liaison between project team, certification organizations and testing agencies to achieve regulatory certification compliance. This includes, but is not limited to organizations such as: UL, CSA, TUV, Intertek, IEC, VDE, ANSI, and US DOT

  • Help develop compliance tools for domestic and international regulations such as ROHS, Reach, California Proposition 65, California E-waste and packaging/transportation requirements

  • Maintain proficiency of worldwide material and product regulations through research, development of network, and ongoing education

  • Champion product compliance considerations in line with regulatory standards or in areas where there are no clear standards

  • Keep abreast of regulatory and industry-led developments and trends through ongoing research and inform the Product Management and Engineering teams of strategic outlook. Provide work standards for on product labeling as well as packaging and web pages (including 3rd party e-commerce) to ensure consistency with current applicable regulations, guidelines and practices

  • Support training programs and educational initiatives related to product sustainability, regulatory and compliance needs of the business

    Champion a culture of compliance and safe products

  • Make proposals and recommendations to Oregon Tool leadership regarding proactive response to the evolving compliance and regulatory landscape with specific focus on intended markets

  • Support continuous improvement of Oregon Tool, department and projects via leading or supporting development of tools, processes, forms, and checklists that help teams accomplish goals of developing compliant, safe products on time and on budget

  • Represent Oregon Tool, industry and public interest as company liaison on various industry, regulatory, and standards development boards that are relevant to Oregon Tool’s business

  • Monitor Standards making bodies and advise company of new or potentially new standards or regulatory requirements that may impact business

  • Provide information reports and recommendations regarding standards and regulatory implementation to management

  • Secure, publicize and make readily available to Oregon Tool personnel, relevant standards and regulatory information

    Support good business methods and project management techniques

  • Investigate, develop, report and manage allocated project budget for certification, testing, compliance needs, and analysis

  • Assure timely payment of invoices and record keeping of same, and procure necessary resources

  • Support Investigations related to products and recalls when necessary

  • Develop, track and communicate monthly performance indicators

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent preferred; 4+ additional years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • A minimum of 5 years of combined experience in product safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance is preferred

  • Systems development and management experience is preferred

  • Product development experience is preferred

  • Experience working with various international organizations such as: UL, CSA, TUV, KEMA, IEC, VDE, ANSI, US DOT is ideal

  • Able to complete responsibilities in a timely, professional and quality manner

  • Solve problems analytically; search out relevant information and gauge its importance when making decisions

  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to express oneself clearly and in technical and non-technical terms

  • Collaborative and effective team player and able to work with teams who are globally dispersed

    For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Washington, Colorado, Nevada, California, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, Oregon Tool is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Oregon Tool, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,000 to $120,000.
