Aerotek Machine Shop Project Manager / Estimator in Portland, Oregon

We are seeking a full time Estimator/Project Manager to support our growing machine shop! This position will be tasked with bridging the gap between our customers and machine shop team by seeing the big picture of upcoming projects and performing a cost analysis to provide customers with an accurate and timely estimate. This is not an entry level role - we are seeking candidates with previous machine shop experience and ability to make an immediate impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize knowledge of machining processes, materials, and labor to accurately estimate the cost of producing CNC machined parts.

  • Analyze material requirements based on design specifications and quantities needed for production.

  • Calculate labor costs base on machining time, setup time, tooling requirements and other relevant factors.

  • Prepare detailed and competitive quotes for clients based on cost estimates, ensuring accuracy and profitability.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to obtain accurate pricing materials, tolling and outsourced processes.

  • Coordinate with Buyers to obtain accurate pricing for materials, tooling and outsourced processes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve cost estimation processes, such as implementing new tools or methodologies, to enhance quality and efficiency.

  • Maintain detailed records of cost estimates, quotes and related communications for future reference and analysis.

  • Hold technical reviews on assigned quotes and complete risk assessment with support from the review team.

  • New Product Introduction - work directly with the Manufacturing Engineering team to co-develop and refine the manufacturing process and strategy. Post new NPI run reviews and ensure the accepted changes are reflected in the bill of materials (BOM), router and other content.

  • Responsible for the BOM. Provide feedback on quotes for feasibility and due dates for completion. Review and resolve issues with requested changes to routers and BOM. Identify systemic problems or opportunities with BOMs and routings. Define and lead projects to resolve issues.

Schedule:

Day shift 8 hours Monday - Friday. Occasional overtime as needed.

Qualified applicants will have:

  • 5+ years' experience in a machine shop environment, ideally with previous machining and hands on manufacturing experience

  • Contract manufacturing experience

  • Ability to communicate across multiple departments to ensure projects are within scope of capabilities

  • Ability to read blueprints and identify GD&T symbols

  • Experience with a variety of machined materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, molly, plastics, and exotic metals.

  • Experience with Solidworks is a plus
