Description
Dawoud Kazimee with Robert Half is in the process of hiring a Controller for our operations in Portland, Oregon. This role is integral to our team, with responsibilities centered around general accounting functions within the non-profit sector. The Controller will be expected to manage staff, oversee month-end close procedures, handle general ledger accounting, and aid in financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Managing a team comprised of Accountants and Payroll Supervisors
• Overseeing general ledger accounting procedures and ensuring their completion in a timely manner
• Handling month-end close procedures, ensuring all financial data is accurate and up to date
• Generating comprehensive financial reports for review by senior management
• Handling any issues or discrepancies related to non-profit fund accounting
• Utilizing MS Great Plains Solomon for various accounting operations
• Collaborating with the VP of Finance on matters related to medical billing
• Continually monitoring and evaluating staff performance, providing guidance and training as needed
• Implementing and maintaining internal controls to increase operation efficiency
• Assisting with audits, providing necessary information and explaining processes as required.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in the non-profit industry working with general accounting functions and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. This position will manage 4 staff (2 Accountants, 1 Payroll Supervisor and 1 Payroll clerk). They are on Microsoft Dynamics Soloman for their ERP – prior experience not required. This is a new position they are adding due to growth. Primary duties will including GL Accounting, month end close, financial reporting and management of staff. Will take straight from public accounting on the audit side if candidate has non-profit clients. Healthcare experience not required – this won’t interface much with the medical billing side (VP of Finance will manage that side).
• Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in a Controller role or similar financial management position
• Demonstrated proficiency in Fund Accounting with a focus on Non-Profit sectors
• Proven experience with Month End Close processes and procedures
• Expertise in using MS Great Plains Solomon software for financial management tasks
• Excellent financial analysis skills, with the ability to create and analyze financial reports
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and direct financial operations
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with all levels of the organization
• Ability to develop and implement financial policies and procedures
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; an MBA or related advanced degree is a plus
• Professional accounting certification, such as CPA or CMA, is preferred
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to financial management
• Proven ability to work with confidential information and maintain discretion
• Must be results-driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound financial decisions.
