POSITION: Cable Splicer Apprentice (CMP- ME - Portland - Canco Rd) (R-06741)

RATE RANGE: \$25.55 - \$30.64 / Hourly

General Description

Assists with the construction and maintenance of cable circuits and allied equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To work with higher rated employees on the installation of conduits, cables, transformers, and similar equipment.
  • To assist with the splicing, connecting, inspecting, testing and repair of cables; preparation of records associated with the underground operation.
  • To know and work with the tools and equipment of the trade.
  • To acquire a working knowledge of the distribution and transmission plant, including such things as sources offered, location of switches, connection to the overhead distribution lines.
  • To read elementary sketches, diagrams, and plans and to work therefrom.
  • To have a working knowledge of the Company\'s operating standards, policies and directives pertaining to the assignment.
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the Safety Instructions affecting the work and to perform the work accordingly.
  • To perform other appropriate duties, as directed.

Skills and Requirements

  • Must have graduated from an accredited line school or have relevant electrical/mechanical experience.
  • Must have a valid Class A driver\'s license unless you were a worker with a Class B driver\'s license prior to 7/1/2009, and a good record of safe driving.
  • Is subject to the Company random drug and alcohol testing policy.
  • Must reside within an acceptable distance (45 minutes) from their regular reporting location or be willing to relocate within nine months of transfer and be available for emergency assignments.
