TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION K035 Electrician I/II in Port Aransas, Texas

Performs skilled electrical/electronic work in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment including marine vessels. Work requires contact with departmental personnel and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:The essential duties for Electrician I include:Calculates electrical loads, wiring sizes and lengths.Coordinates with other crafts such as carpenters, painters, welders, etc.Determines spare part, tool and equipment needs of the electrical section.Ensures work meets American Bureau of Shipping and U.S. Coast Guard specifications.Installs, maintains and performs complex repairs on electrical systems and equipment.Instructs personnel on policies and procedures regarding the general safety precautions in working with AC and DCelectrical systems, servicing equipment aloft, rigging casualty power and isolating equipment for repairs.Maintains interior communications equipment such as sound-powered telephones and circuits, alarms and warning systems,annunciators and temperature indicating equipment.Operates standard electrical/electronic test equipment, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on general lighting,power circuits and electrical equipment.Plans, designs, fabricates and installs new or modified electrical control systems and ensures consistency withspecifications and electrical codes.Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, schematic diagrams of electrical circuits and simple piping and mechanicaldrawings.Repairs and replaces sign lighting, highway illumination and security yard lighting.Repairs switching relays and circuit breaker panels.Responds to trouble calls on electrical problems affecting security systems, fire alarms, buildings and heavy equipment.Trains less experienced electricians.Uses various testing instruments in testing circuits for electrical compatibility and safety of components.Writes and maintains engineering reports, records and files pertaining to electrical machinery, equipment systems andrelated components.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.In addition to the Electrician I duties the Electrician II include:Estimates time and materials need for each work assignment.Plans new or modified installation to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance and to ensureconsistency with specifications and electrical codes.Repairs laboratory electrical equipment, fire alarms and security systems, telephone and computer cables.Repairs shop electrical tools such as welders, drills, cranes and other types of power tools.Troubleshoots and tests circuits for electrical compatibility and safety of components using various testinginstruments.Installs and repairs telephones
