The Senior Director of Clinical Product and Care Model Design is a visionary leader responsible for driving the product vision, strategy, design, roadmaps, and deployment of clinical products. This role requires expertise in Design Thinking and Service Design, utilizing human-centered design methods such as rapid prototyping and usability testing to create clinician- and patient-friendly solutions. The Senior Director will provide Product Management rigor, define clear care model product visions and roadmaps, and lead multidisciplinary teams through a collaborative design process. The role also involves applying agile methodologies and supporting iteration based on emerging data and stakeholder feedback. Additionally, the Senior Director will demonstrate business and financial acumen, bridge the gap between clinical operations and technical development, lead Change Management and Stakeholder Alignment, and focus on Outcome Measurement and Continuous Improvement. By providing leadership and accountability for the performance and direction through various senior leaders, including key executives and heads of multiple business units, the Senior Director ensures that the clinical model work is nationally impactful across Optum Health to clinically differentiate Optum.

Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and maintain the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for clinical products, ensuring alignment with the company's overall strategic goals and spanning multiple business units and regions
Conduct market research and analysis to identify needs, gaps, and opportunities in patient care
Build solid business cases and cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making and ensure financial viability
Provide leadership to senior leaders, including key executives and heads of multiple business units to ensure the clinical model work is nationally impactful across Optum Health and resolves business and clinical problems affecting multiple functions
Product Management Rigor
Define clear care model product visions and roadmaps to keep teams aligned
Lead multidisciplinary teams through a collaborative design process
Apply agile methodologies to balance stakeholder input with timely delivery
Support iteration of the care model roadmap and features based on emerging data and stakeholder feedback, impacting multiple functions and customers
Design Thinking and Service Design
Utilize human-centered design methods such as rapid prototyping and usability testing to support the design of clinician- and patient-friendly solutions
Business and Financial Acumen
Build solid business cases and cost-benefit analyses to support decision-making
Technology Integration
Bridge the gap between clinical operations and technical development, ensuring solutions integrate with EHRs or other healthcare systems
Change Management and Stakeholder Alignment
Lead communication strategies to align diverse groups such as clinical leadership, IT, and finance behind product decisions that impact multiple matrixed businesses across Optum Health
Outcome Measurement and Continuous Improvement
Design a measurement strategy for new care models
Build and track performance metrics such as clinical outcomes, user satisfaction, and ROI to measure success and surface improvement areas
Collaboration and Communication
Work with distributed teams during build and QA to ensure business requirements and functional specifications are met
Act as the primary liaison and ambassador for the clinical products, including authority for approval of features and change messaging
Develop communication strategies to align diverse groups such as clinical leadership, IT, and finance
Build and maintain solid relationships with leadership and program managers across the enterprise
Agile Development
Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, story refinements, and team retrospectives
Act as the IT lead for the EMR governance meeting, presenting outputs from vendor releases and internal configuration sprints
Performance Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
Analyze feedback from sprint reviews and other data sources to identify product needs
Set expectations with business stakeholders for the delivery of new capabilities, features, and functionalities
Design a measurement strategy for new clinical products and track performance metrics such as clinical outcomes, user satisfaction, and ROI

Required Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in product design, product management, or a related field, with a significant portion in a leadership role
Demonstrated experience in Design Thinking and Service Design, including human-centered design methods like rapid prototyping and usability testing
Solid background in agile methodologies and experience with agile development processes
Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex projects from conception to launch

Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships and work well across functions.

The salary range for this role is $150,200 to $288,500 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
