Your role at Clorox:

As a Packaging Scientist 2 in Research & Development for the Cleaning Business Unit, you will be a part of a high performing team responsible for the technical development of products across the Laundry, Dilutables, Toilet and Drain portfolio. You will develop new packaging from concept to launch, using technical leadership to deliver solutions that delight consumers and deliver on industry leading sustainability goals. You will work on a multitude of different packaging & sustainability technologies, work with and manage projects with suppliers, build an understanding of consumer needs and tensions, and have the opportunity to influence high up in both the R&D and business organization. You will do this by working closely with Product and Process scientists as well as members of Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Regulatory on projects in all phases of commercialization.

In this role, you will:

Lead Packaging Development on Business Critical projects and initiatives :

  • Ensure technical rigor and deliver against project deliverables

  • Design and execute technical testing, both internally and externally, to converge on and validate packaging design and performance, including developing new test methods with support when necessary

  • Work on a variety of different packaging technologies (injection molding, blow molding, cartons, flexibles) based on product/project needs

  • Grow your consumer empathy, learning multiple different consumer personas, jobs to be done, and tensions to develop packaging that communicates the “What am I” to the consumer  

  • Partner with multiple functions including Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain

  • Establish and grow relationships with internal and external manufacturing and technology partners

  • Develop and lead manufacturing implementation of innovations.

  • Represent R&D and specifically your packaging POV in communication to leadership

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent number of years of relevant industry experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading the execution of packaging solutions to market, including development from idea to launch

  • Experience with Injection / Blow molding is an asset

  • Strong internal motivation, robust project planning and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and implement multiple projects in a timely manner

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox

Workplace type:

This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office, and the individual will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week. (Relocation assistance is available.)

Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $86,600 - $161,900

–Zone B: $79,400 - $148,400

–Zone C: $72,100 - $134,900

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
