Summary:

  • The radiation therapist is a licensed professional primarily responsible for the simulation and treatment of the cancer client by administering the prescribed radiation treatment dose. Other procedures include, but are not limited to, performing and assisting in various. Quality Assurance procedures (i.e.: clinical warm-up procedures, billing, etc.); participating in nursing and follow-up care, initial and weekly chart checks, EOT (end of treatment) audits as well as assisting the Radiation Oncologist and physicist with other assigned tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilization of MOSAIQ record and Verify System - Records and audits daily treatment records. Captures daily client charges. Schedules client’s course of treatment. Imports client ID photos and treatment photos into MOSAIQ. Portal imaging for weekly film Quality Assurance. Preparation of treatment and simulation rooms. Daily QA output checks on Linear Accelerator and CT Simulator are complete and recorded. Ensures linen and supplies are stocked daily. Rooms maintained, clean and orderly. All immobilization devices are maintained off the floor. Informs department manager when supplies par levels are low. Patient Care - Checks client’s identification using 2 patient identifier (name and DOB) daily prior to treatment and CT Simulation. Verifies client’s prescription, diagnosis, field sizes, daily dose prescribed prior to treatment and post treatment daily. Observes client and equipment during procedures, immediately reports unusual occurrences to the Physician, Physicist, Manager, or Nurse and records client’s condition on a daily basis. Maintains concentration at LINAC and Simulation without distractions from staff and other hospital personnel. Adheres to no personal cell phone usage at LINAC and in Simulation room and no personal land-line usage at the LINAC or Simulation controls. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the client served. Explains procedures clearly to client, transfers client to treatment table, positions and assists client at the end of procedure. Maintain professional, courteous and cooperative manner with clients, family members, co-workers and public. Competence in performing Radiation Therapy procedures. Competent operating Linear Accelerator. Competent operating CT Simulator. Competent using RAD CALC and Tumor Loc software for emergency treatment calculations. Competent operating Portal Vision (MV) and Real Time Imaging (KV, CBCT). Competent in mold room. Competent operating BrainLab SBRT equipment. Understanding of Lap Laser system. Proper procedure for clerical and administrative tasks. Proper transfer of CT images to Tumor Loc and Pinnacle Treatment Planning System immediately following CT Simulation. Proper import and documentation in client EMR (electronic medical record) of simulation sheet and time out sheet prior to simulation. Imports simulation photos into client EMR post simulation. Assures client consent form is signed/dated/timed by all involved parties along with correct treatment site and scanned into client EMR post simulation. Assures client is registered as "active" status in QCPR hospital system for proper billing.
