Job Title: Special Education Teacher

*Location: *The Day School at The Children's Institute, 1405 Shady Avenue, Squirrel Hill, PA 15217

Salary Range: $50,750/year (Bachelor's) $52,750/year (Master's). Additional compensation based on experience. $2,500 sign on bonus.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

About the Team

The Day School is an approved private school licensed by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Private Academic Schools and approved as a special education school by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Families and school districts alike have connected with our expert educational team to bring specialized education and related services, including autism support and multiple disabilities support, to nearly 200 students from 60+ school districts across western Pennsylvania each year.

 

About the Position

The* Special Education Teacher* is responsible for collaborating with the classroom team, behavioral specialists, occupational, speech, and physical therapists, school districts, and families to develop, implement, and monitor effective, individualized academic and behavioral programming for students. Other responsibilities include:

  • Identifies students' needs, based on assessment and prior reports and determines appropriate goals and educational activities based on these needs.
  • Develops individualized strategies and interventions when working with students.
  • Appropriately uses available curricula resources at the Children's Institute.
  • Utilizes appropriate and professional skills and judgment when assisting students.
  • Utilizes appropriate behavior management skills.
  • Develops specific and appropriate classroom management plans.
  • Plans and implements small and large group instruction.
  • Maintains a regular schedule of communication with families regarding classroom activities and student performance.
  • Most tasks require oral communication, visual and hearing perception, and the ability to get around the classrooms, cafeteria, gym, campus, etc.
  • The ability to keep up with running children and/or to lift, position or assist with lifting students is essential to perform this task.

     

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in special education
  • One year successful experience in a special education setting
  • Current special education certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Act 73 FBI, State Act 34-Criminal, and State Act 33-Child Abuse Clearances
  • Current and valid CPR and First Aid certification preferred
