Software Developer

The University of Pittsburgh University Library System (ULS) requires an enthusiastic and talented key contributor to the growth, development, and enhancement of open infrastructure for library services and applications and content. This is a high-level, regular, fulltime software developer position reporting to the Systems Development Lead in the University Library System. At various times the Software Developer will perform in all areas of systems analysis, system design, needs assessment, software development, interface design and development, software support, and resource planning for numerous library-related applications. The Software Developer will work on data import/export processes and data transformations to move data between disparate systems. Proficiency with the LAMP stack, object-oriented programming, relational database systems and ETL is required. M.S. in Computer or Information Science or related field is preferred. The incumbent will be responsible for communication with staff, faculty, students, and other stakeholders through working groups, committees, and special interest groups both within and external to the university. The incumbent must quickly learn new concepts, manage tasks efficiently while meeting deadlines, and possess excellent communication skills. The incumbent must be a self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, responsible team-player.

Job Summary

Contributes to the design, development, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and maintenance of moderately to more complex websites and/or software. Documents development and maintenance efforts, assists in integrating assigned work with other system components, and designs and performs functional testing.

Essential Functions

Perform in all areas of systems analysis, system design, needs assessment, software development, interface design and development, software support, and resource planning. Programmatic manipulation of data using Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes to move data between disparate systems.

Physical Effort

This is typically a sedentary position. This position must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
